Student Leadership

The Live for Lily Event is a fundraising event held every year at Macleod College to raise money for childhood cancer research, in memory of Mrs Spinks’ niece, who sadly passed away on August 11th, 2014 from childhood cancer. The organisation aims to find better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for childhood cancer.
On Monday 11th August, our Student Leadership Team organised a casual clothes day, a barbecue, a colour run, and Mrs Karalis even cut her hair in support of those who have gone through cancer treatment. We would like to extend a massive thank you to all who donated and supported our fundraising events.
As part of the Live for Lily fundraising, the Student Leadership Team, with the help of Ms Tran, organised a barbecue lunch for students. Students from Prep to Year 12 were invited to purchase burgers, wraps, and drinks, with all proceeds going towards the Live for Lily Foundation. During periods 3 and 4, students worked hard to set up and run the lunch, and their efforts were certainly appreciated, with everyone supporting or purchasing from the barbecue.
At the end of lunch, everyone gathered in the Stadium to watch Mrs Karalis cut her hair in honour of Lily, with the crowd cheering her on. After the haircut, the Prep to Year 4 students enjoyed the obstacle course, while a colour run was set up for Years 5 to 12. The colour run stretched across the school, starting at the oval, weaving through the car park near the lockers, and back to the oval. Seeing all the students covered in bright, colourful powder is a joyful tradition that reflects Lily’s energetic, vibrant spirit, which we are grateful to celebrate every year.
The foundation raises funds in the hope of finding a cancer treatment so that every child across Australia has the opportunity to live life to the fullest. We once again thank you for your generous donations and enthusiasm in participating in all events. We will continue to support the foundation for years to come.
