Central Idea: Architecture around the world reflects different cultures, climates, and creative ideas.
This term in Visual Arts, students are embarking on an exciting journey to discover how architecture tells the story of people, places and cultures around the world. They will explore how climate, environment and cultural traditions influence the design of buildings, while investigating the imaginative styles of architects and artists from different countries.
Through a range of creative experiences, students will experiment with drawing, construction and sculpture as they explore shape, pattern, form and design. Inspired by remarkable architecture from around the world, they will develop their own imaginative creations while discovering how artistic expression can transform buildings into works of art.

Year 1
Transdisciplinary Theme:
How We Express Ourselves
Central Idea: Storytelling preserves cultural heritage.
This term in Visual Arts, students are discovering how storytelling has been used by Australian First Nations Peoples for thousands of years to share knowledge, traditions and a deep connection to Country. They will explore the many ways stories are expressed through Australian Aboriginal art, and how symbols, patterns and artistic techniques communicate important cultural meanings.
Through a range of creative experiences, students will experiment with painting, weaving, collage and clay while exploring traditional patterns, natural forms and storytelling-inspired designs. They will develop an appreciation for how art can preserve culture, express identity and strengthen connections across generations.

Year 2

Sharing the Planet
Central Idea: The beauty and diversity of insects inspire artistic creativity.
This term in Visual Arts, students are exploring the fascinating world of insects and discovering how nature inspires artistic creativity. They will investigate the incredible diversity of insects, examining how artists from around the world draw inspiration from the natural environment to create imaginative and expressive artworks.
Through a range of creative experiences, students will experiment with drawing, sculpture, printmaking, collage and natural materials to explore the intricate patterns, textures, colours and forms found in insects. They will develop observational skills while also using their imagination to create unique artistic interpretations of the miniature world around them.

Year 3

Central Idea: Surrealism inspires creative perspectives of our natural world.

Through a range of creative experiences, students will experiment with illustration, painting, sculpture and digital media to develop their own unique street art style. They will explore how artists communicate through character design, scale, colour and form, while building confidence in expressing their own creative voice.
