Learning Area Updates
Year 3/4
In Reading, students have been enjoying the classic novel Charlotte’s Web, exploring characters, making connections and developing their understanding of prefixes and suffixes. In Writing, students have been creating imaginative stories about unlikely friendships, focusing on descriptive language, paragraphing, and effective use of dialogue.
In Maths, students have been developing their understanding of decimals to hundredths and making connections between decimals, money and measurement. In Inquiry, students have been exploring animal life cycles, including the fascinating transformations of lions and butterflies.
With camp just around the corner, students have also been preparing by organising their equipment and discussing how to be safe, responsible and respectful while away. We are looking forward to an exciting week of adventure and learning!
Year 5
Year 5 students have been immersed in The Grandest Bookshop in the World, exploring themes of friendship, courage, resilience, family and perseverance. Students have been developing their reading skills by analysing characters, settings, plot, and themes, while also creating their own narratives featuring engaging characters, descriptive language, and dialogue.
In Maths, students have been developing their understanding of decimals, including representing, ordering and expanding decimals, as well as exploring measurement through practical activities involving length, mass and capacity.
In Inquiry, students have been exploring Wants, Resources and Choices, considering how our decisions about limited resources can impact people, communities and the environment. Students have been investigating light, including how it travels, how shadows are formed and how different materials interact with light. Students are looking forward to putting their learning into practice during their upcoming incursion.
Year 6
Year 6 students have been busy preparing their yearbook after completing Morris Gleitzman's 'Once'. Students have been reflecting on their primary school experiences by writing personal pieces about themselves, their favourite things and memorable moments from their primary years.
In Maths, students have been developing their measurement skills, including converting between units of length, mass and capacity using multiplication and division by 10, 100 and 1,000.
In Inquiry, students have been exploring The People and Places of Asia, learning about the diverse countries, cultures, environments and communities across the continent and considering the role migration has played in shaping Australia's diverse society. Students have also been investigating When Planets Move, developing their understanding of Earth and its place in space.
