Upcoming Changes to School Reports (2027)

From 2027, schools across Victoria will begin implementing the updated reporting requirements, as aligned with the new Department of Education Reporting policy. These changes are designed to strengthen clarity, consistency and transparency for families, while ensuring reporting is more accessible and accurately reflects student learning and progress. The updated reports will place greater emphasis on the achievement standards whilst avoiding overloading families with educational jargon and lengthy text.  There will be a 'uniform' reporting format that is streamlined to improve readability and consistency across schools. The timeline for Primary and Secondary Schools is from Sem 1, 2027, whilst specialist settings have an extra 12 months and will therefore begin in Sem 1, 2028.

Child Safe Training - School Council

This week, Whittlesea Primary School Council undertook the required training on the Victorian Child Safe Standards, reinforcing its governance responsibility to ensure that child safety remains paramount across all aspects of school operations. This training is a critical component of effective school governance. It strengthens Council members’ understanding of the legislative and policy framework underpinning the Child Safe Standards and clarifies the distinct roles and responsibilities of the School Council and the Principal in establishing, monitoring, and reviewing child-safe policies, procedures, and practices. Through this professional learning, School Council members are better equipped to exercise due diligence, provide informed oversight and ensure that robust systems are in place to prevent, identify and respond to risks to student safety. It supports a consistent, proactive, and compliant approach aligned with the Department of Education's requirements and community expectations.

Child safety is an ongoing and collective responsibility. Continued training ensures that the School Council maintains a strong focus on accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Indigenous Literacy Day

Last Wednesday, September 2, was Indigenous Literacy Day, with this year's theme being 'Country is our Teacher'. This day celebrates the importance of literacy in sharing stories, culture and identity. It recognises the rich traditions and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the role literacy plays in strengthening connection to culture and community. At Whittlesea Primary School, students will engage in learning that highlights Indigenous stories and perspectives, helping to build understanding, respect and inclusion across our school community.

There was plenty of enthusiasm from our students throughout the performance, with many joining in, moving along and enjoying the opportunity to experience something a little different from their usual school day. Incursions like this provide students with opportunities to experience the arts in an authentic and engaging way, while encouraging creativity, confidence and participation. A big thank you to STOMP Dance Company for visiting WPS and giving our students such a memorable experience. It was certainly a day filled with rhythm, movement, and fun!
