Secondary Schools Student Leadership Program
On Wednesday the 18th of March our school captains travelled to Sydney to partake in the Secondary Schools Student Leadership Program, at the NSW Parliament. They were able to accrue first hand experience through viewing Question Time at parliament live, within both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council. They were additionally invited to the have lunch with the President of the Legislative Council, Ben Franklin in his private dining room, accompanied by MP for the Northern Tablelands. They discussed issues facing our region and their age demographic. The student leaders were also given the opportunity to meet Her Excellency, The Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC, Governor of NSW, at Government House. These experiences were an incredible opportunity for our captains to develop leadership skills, forge new connections and speak with our local MPs and representatives in a parliamentary setting.
Science and Engineering Challenge
This term students in Years 8 – 9 competed in the Science and Engineering Challenge at the UNE. This competition sees teams of students competing against other school in a series of activities including designing a tornado proof house, building a bridge that can hold the greatest weight and ElectraCITY – finding a way to provide lowest-cost electricity to the city’s infrastructure.
Our Year 10 students attended the Primary Challenge day to support our local primary students in their STEM education through similar challenges. A great day was had by all and we can’t wait for next year!
Year 7 Teal class showcased their amazing teamwork with presentations about the Aboriginal sky in Ms Balls Science class!
They also created insightful posters highlighting the importance of NESA tools in their learning journey. A big thank you to Ms Allford for judging the presentations and posters.
Congratulations to all the winners!
