Aboriginal Education

Armidale Secondary College was proud to host the Secondary Aboriginal Dance Workshop, led by renowned tutors from Bangarra Dance Theatre. Coordinated by the NSW Department of Education’s Arts Unit, this enriching initiative provided students with a dynamic opportunity to explore culture through the art of movement.

Students from Kempsey, Bundarra, Bingara, Guyra, Walcha, Uralla, and Tamworth came together to learn, discover, and perform contemporary Indigenous dance repertoire. Through this immersive experience, participants deepened their understanding of Indigenous stories and traditions while developing their artistic skills under expert guidance.

This program not only nurtures creativity and cultural appreciation but also fosters connection and collaboration among young people from diverse communities.

A big thank you goes to Sani, Amy, and Alira from Bangarra, and Julian from the Arts Unit, whose expertise, leadership, and encouragement made this initiative possible and unforgettable.

We congratulate all students involved for their enthusiasm and dedication in bringing Indigenous culture to life through dance. We are also excited to share that all ASC students who participated have been invited to audition for the NSW Public School Aboriginal Dance Company — a fantastic opportunity to further their cultural and artistic journey.

Proud Moment for Tia and Nahri!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of Tia-Nara and Nahri Slater-Saunders, who have been representing Armidale in the Lisa Fiaola Cup — a key NRLW pathway competition showcasing the best emerging female rugby league talent across New South Wales.

Over the weekend, their team were crowned Grand Final Champions — an outstanding achievement and a testament to their hard work, skill and dedication to the game. 👏

A special congratulations goes to Tia-Nara, who has been identified as a future Blues Women’s Country player and invited to attend the Future Blues Country Academy. This elite two-day camp will be held at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence in April, providing a major step forward in her pathway toward the NRLW.

We are so proud of both girls for their success and the way they represent Armidale Secondary College and our community.

Congratulations Tia-Nara and Nahri — the future is bright!

We also congratulate Alynyah Moran, who impressed selectors with her skill and determination, earning selection in the Under 16s North West Tackle Rugby League team.

All three girls demonstrated exceptional teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the trials. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing them represent the North West region.

Well done, girls!
