Queensland Representative School Sport

QRSS has provided Queensland school students opportunities to access quality competitive sporting pathways for over 100 years. With district, regional, state and national level events supported by over 4,000 team officials and 200 Board, Committee and Executive members, no wonder the program delivers a world class product.

 

Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) leads the delivery of competitive sporting pathways for affiliated state and non-state schools across Queensland. The program offers representative pathways in 21 sports with over 150,000 students participating each year, across district, regional, state and national levels.

Student Official Registration 2026

The Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) Student Official Program offers students a chance to be part of the action — not just as athletes, but as referees and umpires in their favourite sports!

Students officiating opportunities in the below sports:

  • Football (Soccer)
  • Hockey
  • Netball
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union/7s
  • Softball
  • Touch Football
  • Volleyball
  • Water Polo

*other sports may utilise the SSO's through the host region

Important Information for Families

  • Students must have previous referee/umpire experience.
  • Students will be notified 6–12 weeks before the event.
  • Travel & accommodation are the family’s responsibility.
  • QRSS provides documentation for school absence/principal approval.
  • Students must attend State Championships to be eligible for Nationals.
  • QRSS will coordinate with sporting organisations to select student officials.
  • Students will pay for a QRSS Student Official shirt, hat & photo. 
  • Mentoring by qualified referee/umpire educators.
  • Support from a Student Official Manager at events.
  • Potential selection for National Championships.
  • Flight subsidies available:
    • Up to $150 for State Championships
    • Up to $350 for National Championships

State Sporting Organisations will work with QRSS to ensure students have an opportunity to officiate at the highest level, receiving mentoring and feedback throughout State and National events.
