Head of Year 9 & 10 News
Mr Bill Moloney

It is hard to believe we have already reached the end of Week 6. This term has moved quickly, and as we head toward the final few weeks of the year, it is important that all students finish strongly and continue meeting the expectations of Toogoolawah State High School. These were the key messages shared on parade this week.
Level 1 Student Applications
Students were reminded that Level 1 is the highest behaviour level recognised at Toogoolawah SHS. It is not something that is handed out lightly. To apply, students must have been on Level 2 for a minimum of twelve months and must show consistent positive behaviour over an extended period of time. The application process requires students to gather points in areas such as attendance, leadership roles, volunteering, school service, academic effort and participation in extracurricular activities. This system ensures that those who achieve Level 1 have demonstrated real contribution, responsibility and commitment to our school community. Students who are aiming for this level should stay focused, review their points regularly and look for opportunities to be involved.
End of Year Expectations
We are now getting very close to the end of the year. While there is plenty of excitement building, the last two weeks have seen some unnecessary disruptions in classes. This is not acceptable. Teachers’ classrooms are their workplace and they come prepared each day to teach and support our students. School is also the students’ workplace and everyone has a responsibility to help create a calm, respectful learning environment. As we said on parade, “Your behaviour is your reputation, so protect it,” and “The end of the year is not the end of expectations.” We ask all students to step up and ensure that learning can continue without interruptions.
Attendance
Attendance continues to be one of the biggest indicators of student success, and with only a few weeks remaining, it is important that students finish the year strongly. Every lesson matters, especially at this time of year. Students were reminded that “Success begins with showing up,” and “You cannot learn from the lesson you did not attend.” Strong attendance keeps students connected, confident and prepared for next year, so we encourage all students to make every day count.
Assessment
This time of term always brings a busy period of assessment across Year 9 and 10. Students were encouraged to stay organised, use class time effectively and communicate early if they need help. Assessment is not just about the final grade, it is about effort, responsibility and persistence. The message on parade was simple: “Do
not wait until the due date to ask for help.” By staying focused and using the support available from teachers, every student can finish the term successfully.
Rite Journey Update
We also informed students that there will not be a Rite Journey dinner for Year 9 this year. An expression of interest was sent out by Mr Nielsen, but only seven responses were received, making it unviable to run the event this term. While this may be disappointing, we are already planning ahead. Next year we will be introducing a new program for our Year 10 students to mentor the incoming Year 9 Rite Journey group. This will create stronger connections between year levels and provide more meaningful experiences for all students involved.
