Changes to AUSLAN 2026

2026 sees a change to our Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program. After careful consideration of staffing and the offering of LOTE in our cluster primary schools, AUSLAN will not be offered as a LOTE subject next year. We recognise that some families will be disappointed by the discontinuation of AUSLAN, and this decision was not made lightly.

In its place, all students will participate in Literacy and Numeracy Enhancement (LNE). This program has been designed to strengthen the essential skills that underpin success across every subject area. LNE will provide targeted, practical learning that builds confidence and supports students to make strong academic progress.

Changes to Year 11 Certificate II/III Sport and Recreation 2026

We wish to advise you of a change to the Year 11 curriculum for 2026. The Certificate III in Sport and Recreation will not be offered next year due to changes in Australian Government funding of school Vocational Education and Training in Schools funding (VETiS)

In its place, students will have access to the QCAA Applied subject Sport and Recreation. This subject provides a zero-cost alternative while still offering a strong balance of practical participation, physical activity and applied learning. Students will continue to develop skills in teamwork, event organisation, activity planning and personal fitness.

While we acknowledge that some families may be disappointed by the withdrawal of the Certificate III option, we are confident that the Applied subject will deliver a meaningful, engaging and practical learning pathway without additional fees or VETis funding.

If your child selected the Certificate III option, their enrolment will automatically transition to the Applied Sport and Recreation subject unless you contact the school to discuss an alternative.

Staffing 2026

2025 will see us farewell Ms Justine Miller as she transfers to Nanango SHS to be closer to her newly purchased home. We wish her the best and are grateful for her wonderful teaching here over the last 8 years. Since starting with us in 2017, Ms Miller had thrived as an experienced teacher, year co-ordinator, Duke Of Ed assistant, been married and become a mother! We are so very grateful to have had her on our staff and will miss her caring and cheery demeanour. We wish her all the best for her new beginning.

2025 will see us also farewell Mr Brett de Grussa who will take up a ‘career change’ of sorts as he takes on a Manual Arts teaching role at Lowood SHS. He has been our Guidance Officer here for 5 years. He has been a valuable part of not only our student wellbeing team but has taught Yr 7 and 8 AUSLAN and been integral in the development and success of the Yr 9 Rite Journey Program. We hope he enjoys his new role and we will miss his jovial and supportive nature.

Report Cards and 2026 Timetables

Report cards will be posted home in Week 10. They will include a 2026 draft student timetable and stationary lists should you require them.
