Ballet workshop
by Geraldine King
On Thursday 6/11 and Friday 7/11, five students attended a ballet/contemporary dance workshop (in conjunction with PVGC) that was hosted by the Australian Ballet and as part of the Merri Bek education plan. The students overcome nerves to perform a brilliant dance after just a day and a half of workshops.
Thank you to the Merri Bek region and the Australian Ballet for organising such a fantastic opportunity.

Here is the feedback from some of the students:
Alexa: Last week we visited the Australian Ballet where we learned about contemporary dance and choreographed our own dance in groups. We then presented everything, which I was really proud of. This was overall a 10/10 experience that I would love to do again.

Ting: From Thursday to Friday, we went to the Australian Ballet program and it was a super fun experience. There was another school who did it with us on the excursion. We all had to introduce ourselves to each other before being put into groups to create dance moves that represented feeling, looking, and listening. I think our group did a good job covering these three elements in our dance, and the other groups did really well too. The final performance looked very cool, although it was a bit embarrassing. But overall, I thought it was a really fun experience, and I’d love to go again next year in Year 9.

Kinjal: On Thursday and Friday, we went to the Australian Ballet and it was a really fun and cool experience. I already had some dance experience but learning contemporary dance was something new and interesting. We got to create our own choreography in a group and we worked well.. We also had to perform at the end. I wasn't scared, but I was kind of nervous meeting with people my age from a different school. I thought I was going to mess up, but it went really well and I felt proud after we finished. One of the professional ballet dancers showed us her pointe shoe and she even did turns called pirouette. It was really beautiful and it actually inspired me. The people there were all nice and kind even though we did not get to talk to them that much. We played games to start off which I really enjoyed and learned new things about dance and teamwork.
