Goodbye School – Marcus Gionfriddo-Tadic
Ahh, the final days of school drop by
You’re all hyped for what’s to come
You were like “schools a nightmare”
A walk through the desert
A climb up a mountain
A swim through the ocean
However, you realised
All the memories at that place
You completely forgot about
Rush to you in that current moment
All the giggling at the back of the class
The inside jokes
The goofy noises
It made you push through that dreadful class
The excursions
To the city, the snow
The theme parks
And all others alike
Those were the most unique memories ever
The lunch breaks
All the laughing
The interesting conversations
Your friends cracking up a joke
You would almost choke on your spit
Ahh, you had so many other memories
So, so many
It was hard to keep up with them
As this is being written
I realise
That I’ve thought so far ahead
Of when that day will come
All those fun classes
The excursions
And those breaks
They’ll all be gone
In the blink of an eye
Every day now
Will be a day to remember
Forever.
Lies will be, lie – Zak Mohammed
Everything is a lie
Question it all
Everything is a lie
Question it all
The government is a lie
Everything is a lie
Question it all
The government is a lie
Happiness is a lie
Everything is a lie
Question it all
The government is a lie
Happiness is a lie
Hatred is a lie
Everything is a lie
The government is a lie
Happiness is a lie
Hatred is a lie
The media is a lie
Question it all
The world is lie
It's a trap
A delusion
Don't fall for it
For I know from wisdom
The Trip – Bassam Nazzal
Pick up your children
Drive for few hours
No sleep
The blue-coloured motel
Walk inside
Its carpets cleaned and walls maintained
Walk with your children down the fields of grass
Standing in the grains of sand
Aware and on alert
No children walking far in the clear water
Holding on to your cold and wet soda
Consuming hot and steaming food
The heat and clear blue sky
Your body, tired and exhausted
Walking back in the warm air
A peaceful rest
Feeling Australian – Abdul Rabah
I feel Australian
But I am not
I feel Australian
But I don't look it
I feel Australian
But I am Lebanese
I feel Australian
But do I fit in?
I am not Australian
But the people around me are.
We are the same – Abdul Rabah
People see my skin
The colour of chocolate
They hear my name and make a guess
But I am not what they see
We all hurt
We all smile
We all breathe
Different colours with the same heart
We are people
We are the same
Palestine – Ibrahim Saad
The sky is dark,
People are suffering.
Kids who were in the park playing suddenly turn into soldiers.
With no more food and no more aid,
People get on their knees and begin to pray.
No ceasefire and so much lost,
Continuous bombing
And people aren’t growing.
Food – Ibrahim Asad Syed
Can’t speak in my mother tongue
But can speak in food
Which we all understand.
Can’t talk about the culture I lack
But can speak and connect about what we eat
Since the day I was born.
I may lose connection
With my family
But not with the food that we all love.
