2026 School Captains Announcement

I am delighted to announce our 2026 School Captains and Diversity Captain — outstanding student leaders who have shown initiative, compassion, and a strong commitment to shaping a positive future for our school. Left to Right:

Students were asked to submit a written application outlining their leadership experience and vision for the school. Shortlisted candidates then took part in a panel interview with both students and staff, demonstrating their communication skills, teamwork, and passion for student voice. The final stage saw each candidate present their “Passion Project” idea at a special assembly for Years 10 and 11. Their projects showcased creative and thoughtful ideas to make our school more connected, inclusive, and sustainable.

Congratulations to our 2026 School Captains and Diversity Captain — I am confident they will represent our school community with pride, energy, and integrity, and I look forward to seeing your ideas come to life and the positive impact you will make across the year ahead.

Remembrance Day

Last week our 2026 Glenroy College student captains proudly represented the school at the Glenroy RSL Remembrance Day service. It was a moving occasion, as our students joined veterans, community members, and local leaders to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served in the Australian Defence Force.

Our captains had the opportunity to meet and speak with Peter Khalil MP, Kathleen Matthews-Ward MP, and Merri-Bek Mayor Helen Davidson, who each shared reflections on the importance of remembrance and community service. The students also heard personal stories from current Defence Force personnel and returned servicemen and women, gaining a deeper appreciation of the legacy and resilience of those who served. Standing beside our local community at such a significant event was both humbling and inspiring. Our captains represented Glenroy College with great pride, showing respect, maturity, and empathy throughout the ceremony. They laid a wreath on behalf of the school community and took time to listen and learn from the experiences shared by those who have served our country.

Events like these remind us that remembrance is not only about the past—it’s also about the values of courage, respect, and unity we continue to uphold today.

Year 9 City Experience

This year saw our first Year 9 City Excperience. Over three days, students explored Melbourne’s cultural, historical, and civic landmarks while completing inquiry-based learning tasks connected to our curriculum. They navigated public transport, interviewed members of the public, and collected information for their city projects. This hands-on experience was designed to help students develop important life skills such as problem-solving, communication, and collaboration.

Highlights included visits to the Eureka Skydeck, The Big Issue, Melbourne Central, as well as guided walking tours through the city’s laneways and key precincts. Students had the chance to see Melbourne from a new perspective and apply their classroom learning in real-world contexts.

Students managed their time and independence with confidence—travelling safely, meeting expectations, and fully engaging with the activities planned. Many commented that they saw and experienced Melbourne in ways they never had before, gaining new perspectives on the people, culture, and opportunities that make our city so vibrant. It was a week of growth, discovery, and pride—well done to all involved!

Year 8 Gardening Project

Last week, our Year 8 students took part in an exciting gardening and beautification project along the Cardinal Road side of the school. The aim was to create a more welcoming and attractive environment that reflects the pride we take in our school and community.

Students worked together to plant and maintain new garden beds featuring native and indigenous plants, and sustainable landscaping choices. Through this hands-on experience, they developed teamwork, responsibility, and a sense of contribution to their school environment. The newly planted area has already brightened the Cardinal Road entrance, and we are incredibly proud of our students’ enthusiasm and effort. A big thank you to the staff who supported this project and helped bring the students’ hard work to life.

Farewell, 2025!

2025 has been an amazing year of achievement for Glenroy College, one where Our students have continued to shine, taking advantage of the amazing opportunities provided to them. From academic excellence to extracurricular triumphs, their achievements reflect the resilience, dedication, and passion that define Glenroy College. Whether it’s excelling in the classroom, on the sports field, or participating in new clubs and activities, the growth we've witnessed in our students this year has been truly inspiring.

Most of my highlights from the year come from seeing student reactions to their own successes or experiences. Just a handful of lovely moment from this year include:

Welcoming our fabulous new year 7 cohort and families to the community, and seeing them flourish from the reserved, timid young people who walked in to the confident leaders they are today
Seeing the pride and joy as students build their confidence in learning, for some showing the equivalent of 4 years of literacy or numeracy growth in 1 year
The wonderful community spirit at events like our Iftar dinner, VCEVM Expo and Arts Technology Show
The ongoing upgrades to the learning and play spaces - there's more to come!
The regular interschool sporting wins (particularly over Coburg High)

I would like to thank our wonderful School Council including Council President Deb Clarke, my remarkable team of staff including Assistant Principals Ms Tizian, Ms Ames and Ms Johnstone, Business Manager Susie Polatidis, and every one of our team here who work tirelessly to prepare our students all for the world ahead.
