Specialist Subjects 

Japanese

Students will learn to greet and farewell each other in Japanese. We will learn greetings for different times of the day. We will learn to communicate in different situations using appropriate levels of politeness. We will learn that Japanese is a character language and that hiragana is used to write words of Japanese origin. We will explore reading hiragana characters using memory hints. We will reflect upon the importance of culture and share what we know about Japan, the place and culture. We will make connections with cultures within our own school community.

Digital Technologies

This term, students are starting to use LEGO Spike. They will be building robots and using their laptops to write code that makes them move. Students will continue to expand on their coding skills as well as learn how motors and sensors work together, figuring out how to break a big task down into smaller, manageable steps. 

 

Art

Students will engage in Visual Arts by exploring the elements of art which include line, shape, texture, space, colour, colour value (gradient) and form. They will use these to begin exploring how different materials can be used to demonstrate these elements and how some materials will be more suited to particular aspects of creative work. The students will move into creating drawings of different things, including a self portrait. They will be inspired by the work of Frida Kahlo, Matisse and Van Gogh, amongst others.

Physical Education 

In P.E. This term, students will be focusing on applying Fundamental Movement Skills in different sports and activities alongside developing their knowledge around strategy and tactical thinking. Striking and fielding sports such as Cricket, T - Ball, and Softball will be used to align with our focus.
