Year 1 & 2
Around our level
Our students have settled back well into routines at school for the start of Term 3. They have been eagerly practising their Production songs for the upcoming whole-school Production later this term.
During Literacy sessions, students have continued to work on UFLI and Guided Reading. We have started reading some of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s shortlisted books for 2026. We read ‘Derek’ by Ann Donaldson. Derek is a goldfish who asks himself lots of different questions. It got the children thinking of some questions of their own! With the upcoming Commonwealth Games, students have started to research competing countries, an Australian athlete, and a sport of their choice. They are aiming to present these as a poster.

For Maths lessons, students have been learning about the place value of numbers, working with 2-digit, 3-digit, and 4-digit numbers. They have started learning about Multiplication by learning about equal groups and repeated addition.

In Grammar lessons, Year 1 students have been learning about expanding simple sentences by making ‘stretchy sentences’. Year 2 students have been learning about coordinating conjunctions.
For Geography, students explored the Commonwealth Games, learning about participating countries, national flags, and the history of the Games. They also discussed the importance of teamwork, fairness, and sportsmanship in bringing people together through sport.

In Wellbeing, students explored stress, emotions, and healthy friendships. They identified strategies to manage stress, recognised how emotions affect friendships, and learned about the qualities of kind, respectful, and supportive relationships.

Congratulations to Kei H (1A) and Matilda B (2A) for reading lots of books and entering them online in the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge website! They will each get a certificate at the assembly on Monday.
