Around Our Level
Welcome back everyone! We are looking forward to a very exciting and busy Term 3, and of course our whole-school Production. Our students have settled back into classroom routines and made a pleasing start to Term 3.
In Prep, we have been learning about the sounds that ‘j’ and ‘y’ make in words. On Monday, we wrote a recount about our holidays and practised our handwriting in our Writing Time Books. In Literacy, we have been learning to recognise and write the word ‘was’, and undertaken partner reading activities, including 'Read and Roll', which is great for improving our blending and segmenting of words to improve our reading fluency. Over the holidays, students have been working hard to learn their list words (heart words) and were sent home new homework to complete over the week. Each Thursday/Friday, our Preps undertake an assessment for UFLI (our Phonics program) to test their knowledge of the sounds each week and to complete a dictated sentence independently.
In Maths, we have been learning about the numbers to 20, including recognising the numbers, counting each number, writing the numbers, and modelling them on a double tens frame. In class, we have been counting to the number 100 in preparation of our celebrations for 100 Days of School. Students will come dressed in a costume/outfit depicting something to do with the number 100. For example, 100 on the back of a basketball singlet or football jumper, 100 dots on a dress, 100 ribbons in their hair, a t-shirt with the number 100 or dressing up as an elderly person who is 100 years old. The list of ideas is endless, and we ask that parents use things they already have at home as part of their child’s 100 Day of School outfit.

In Wellbeing, we have been learning about ‘remembering to be our own best friend’. We have been using the Friendology and Respectful Relationships Program to revise important friendship concepts, which include:
No friendship is perfect.
Every friendship is different.
Trust and respect are the two most important qualities of a friendship.
Friendships change and that’s okay.
Our focus has been on identifying what is special about ourselves and others.
In Integrated Studies, our focus this term will be on geography, nature, and the environment. We will be learning about different environments, such as home, school, and the world, and will touch on concepts such as weather, people, and places where we live.
We look forward to commencing our PMP Program on Friday, 24th July, and we thank all our weekly volunteers for their support and assistance.
