Principals' Weekly Update

Dear Families

We have had a wonderful school week and as always, lots of wonderful things happening - particularly great teaching and learning opportunities for all our children. There is definitely a buzz in the air with the anticipation of our annual Mother's Day event.

Mother’s Day Lunch – Tomorrow, Friday 22 May

We are very much looking forward to our special Mother’s Day Lunch tomorrow. Preparations for this event have been led by a dedicated group of parents; however, it has truly been a wonderful team effort across our school community. We look forward to bringing together the special people in our children’s lives to stop, reflect and celebrate together.

COMPASS Reminder

COMPASS is the school’s official communication portal. Please note that communication outside of COMPASS is not monitored by the school. We are aware that many families rely on WhatsApp groups for sharing school information; however, this has unfortunately resulted in some children receiving incorrect information or being unable to attend events due to missing parent consent.

We kindly ask families to redirect one another back to COMPASS for all school communication. Please also regularly check COMPASS for payments requiring attention and consent forms that need to be completed.

Late Arrivals and Early Pick-Ups

We understand that late arrivals and early collections are sometimes unavoidable.

However, when this occurs consistently, it can impact a child’s ability to regulate and their sense of belonging within the classroom community.

As a reminder, we offer a “soft start” each morning, with classrooms open from 8:45am. This optional time allows children to settle in and transition calmly into the school day.

Regarding early pick-ups, office staff have been asked not to disturb classrooms during learning time unless absolutely necessary, as interruptions affect all students’ learning. If you know your child will need to leave early, we ask that you please notify the classroom teacher in advance via a handwritten note or message the day before, so your child can be ready at the office at the required time. We appreciate your ongoing support and understanding.

Staff PD – Classroom Expectations and Establishing Routines

This week, staff participated in professional learning focused on classroom expectations and establishing routines. These two areas are integral to the Department of Education’s Positive Classroom Management Strategies and, as a school, we are committed to strengthening routines to support the expectations we have established across all learning environments.

During the session, staff also explored the importance of developing skills in compassionate communication. Staff are currently trialling this four-step process and have already been surprised by its effectiveness. We can see the potential for this approach to become a powerful tool in supporting children to enact our school values through empathetic listening, respectful questioning and positive relationships.

School Council Update

School Council met on Monday, and it was wonderful to be part of such a dedicated group of teachers and parents committed to achieving the best outcomes for all children.

The Education and Policy Sub-committee reported on a number of policies that will require updating throughout the year. Families will be notified whenever a policy is updated, and we encourage you to take the time to read these important documents.

The committee is also exploring changes to our school Bulletins, including the introduction of individual Bulletin folders for each child. These folders would travel between home and school and be signed by parents, with the aim of strengthening the home-school partnership. More information about these proposed changes will be shared shortly. In the meantime, please continue to read the electronic version of the Bulletin.
