Welcome back to school everyone. We hope you spent some quality time with your beautiful children on the holidays.

We have had a great start to Term Four with two incursions already! Students really enjoyed Being Indy, performed live on stage. Students learnt about the text first, then saw it come to life on stage.

We then had the Emmerson Band visit the school. There was a lot of singing, dancing and toe tapping! They were SO good.

In Literacy we have continued our learning of two or more letters making one sound. Over the past two weeks we learnt about the sound made by oo as in moon, le as in poodle, ow as in down, ou as in ouch, oi as in oink and oy as in joy . We have also worked on writing compound sentences with uppercase letters to begin and for the names of people and places. We have revised placing spaces between each word and ending punctuation including full stops, exclamation marks and question marks. Students have been working on their heart words too. We are working on editing our sentences with a different coloured pencil with the above points and making sure our sentences make sense.

In Numeracy we have been revising making numbers to 20 for the Preps and 120 for the Grade Ones. We have worked on numbers before and after given numbers, odd and even numbers, making numbers in different ways such as 6 and 4 is 10 and 4 and 6 is 10, and 2 and 2 and 2 and 2 and 2 is also 10. We have worked on skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s and writing our numbers correctly. Students have worked on using their knowledge of numbers to say how many tens and how many ones are in numbers such as 13 is one ten and three ones and 87 is 8 tens and 7 ones. We have used our knowledge of numbers to work on money, by skip counting by $2, $5 and $10.

In History this term we are learning about inventions from the past. We have learnt who invented the first video game and who invented paper.

In Auslan, students have learnt how to sign using Bluey as inspration on ABC iview.

In Digital Technologies students are learning how to use Scratch Junior. We were so lucky to

have 1/2 Murphy and 1/2 Monson's students teach us all they have learnt about this program.

We are excited for our Prep/ One Dinner and Games afternoon. Students will have fun making bracelets, drawing Pikachu, dancing to music and making items through origami. Everyone is excited to have pizza, Zooper Doopers and Primas together.

We began our Kinder to School transition program on Wednesday. Each Wednesday, enrolled kindergarten students are spending time in a Prep room to help them feel comfortable at school. Some Grade Five students will be joining us each week, as they will become the new Prep students' buddies. If you have a child starting school in 2027, please ensure they are enrolled to join in this program.

REMINDER

A reminder that the junior team have their annual Grandparent's Day on Friday 23rd of October in our classrooms from 9.00am-10.30am. Please ensure your child has someone to spoil on this morning. Please bring in a favourite board game to play with your grandparent.

Maths 🔢

In Maths, we have been learning different strategies for solving two-digit addition and subtraction problems. Students have been using their understanding of tens and ones to partition numbers, combine amounts and solve calculations. We have been focusing on explaining our thinking and choosing strategies that help us solve problems efficiently.

English 📚

In English, we have been reading Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge and exploring how authors make stories interesting for their readers. We have been practising asking questions about characters, events and ideas in the text and using these questions to help us develop our own narrative writing. Students have been working on creating interesting characters and events in their stories.

Auslan 🤟

In Auslan, we have been learning signs through Bluey! Students have been enjoying learning and practising signs for words including bike, park, world, hospital and doctor. We have been practising using these signs in context and building our confidence with Auslan each week.
