Education in Faith

Blessed Carlo Acutis becomes a Saint this Sunday!

This Sunday, 7th September, the Church will witness a historic and deeply moving moment: the canonisation of Blessed Carlo Acutis, a modern teenager who will be officially declared a saint.

Who was Carlo Acutis?

Born in 1991 and raised in Italy, Carlo was 15 years old when he died of leukemia in 2006. He lived a short life, however spiritually, his impact continues to grow in remarkable ways.

Carlo was a typical teenager. He loved video games, soccer, Pokemon, Super Mario Brothers

and computers. What set him apart from his peers, was his deep and personal love for Jesus, especially in the Eucharist, which he called his "highway to heaven."

From a young age, Carlo had a strong devotion to the Mass and to prayer. He used his talents in technology to build a website, recording Eucharistic miracles around the world.

Carlo's life is a reminder that holiness is not reserved for the old or the extraordinary. He shows us that even in a world saturated with distractions, technology, and materialism, it is possible to live a life of virtue, joy, and faith. He reminds us that the internet and digital tools can be used for good and that it’s possible to balance a life of modern engagement with deep spiritual commitment.

The cause for Acutis’s beatification and canonisation opened in 2012 and received approval from the Holy See the following year.

  • On July 5, 2018, he was declared “Venerable” by Pope Francis. His first miracle
  •  was attributed to him in early 2020, in response to a Brazilian boy born with a malformed pancreas having been healed after praying to Acutis for his intercession and receiving one of his relics.
  • Acutis was beatified, or declared “Blessed,” by Francis on October 10, 2020.
  • In May 2024, Francis recognised a second miracle that was attributed to Acutis’s intercession, paving the way for his canonisation in 2025.

Carlo, our millennial saint, has showed us that holiness and even sainthood are possible for teenagers and young people today, in the ordinary circumstances of everyday life. Saints can wear Nike and jeans, play computer games and surf the net too!

Blessed Carlo Acutis, soon-to-be Saint, pray for us and for all families!

We wish the community Carlo Acutis Parish Primary School, our fellow St Peter's Parish primary school, A wonderful celebration for this special event.

Father's Day

This Sunday, September 7th, we celebrate Father’s Day. On this day, we give honour and

thanks to those who reflect your fatherly example: those who are dads and grandads; step-dads, foster dads, godfathers and fathers-in-law; those who are coaches, leaders and mentors; and those who are elders and wisdom-men of our communities.

Dear God,

Thank You for the gift of fathers. Thank You for their strength, guidance, and love. Bless all fathers with patience, wisdom, and joy. Be with those who miss their dads or find this day difficult. May all families feel Your love and care today and always.

Amen.
