Cricket Day

Grade 5 and 6 had cricket day on Friday. The rules were exactly the same as master blasters rules. There was an all stars team and a future stars team. All the people that played cricket outside of school for a club made the all stars team and the people giving their first go made the future stars team. We arrived at WA WA WA at approximately 9:27 and chose our captains, Zach U and Alex C. We warmed up with some fielding before we went over to start our first game.

Game 1: In our first game we played St. Joseph’s and from the start, we knew we could win. In the end our wicket count was 7 wickets in 8 overs, and after a great batting innings, Galilee got our first win, and by a sizeable amount.

Game 2: After winning our first game we were pumped to play St. Patrick’s. We bowled first Alex and Zach opened the bowling because they didn't bowl last game. We bowled not our best but still were very capable of chasing the total down. We ended up just getting the required total by only 2 runs. It was an exciting finish and were 2 and 0 to start the day.

Game 3: In game 3 we played St. Mary’s Hampton, and coming off back-to-back wins, our morale was high. We started the batting, with Ben and Harry B opened. We gained lots of runs, and the whole team was smacking boundaries. The other team had a hard time ahead, as we managed to rack up over 130 runs in 8 overs! But even though we bowled great, and caught multiple would-be sixes on the boundary, they just slipped past us, winning by 15.

Game 4: In our fourth game we played St. Joan of Arc. It was a tight game but we weren't quite able to win. We only lost by 8 runs to end the day. We bowled well in that game but they also batted well. It was a highly skilled game of cricket to finish us off for the day.

In conclusion even though we lost our last two games it was still a really fun day winning our first two games and coming back to school with five minutes left in assembly. We got the first dibs on the zooper doopers as we reflected on our day and most of us prepared for our cricket game later that night.

Cricket

Last Friday on the 27th of October, some kids from Grade 5 and 6 traveled to play cricket games against other Catholic schools. 2 teams were formed from Galilee to compete. The All Star boys team and the Mixed team. The mixed team consisted of 9 players, 4 girls and 5 boys.

The first game was Galilee Mixed against St. Joan of Arc. Galilee did well to score 3 wickets. Though sadly lost due to St. Joan of Arc's great batting. The next game was Galilee’s Mixed team vs St. Patricks. Lucky for us we beat them 155 to 45, securing our first win. In the third game we played St. Mary’s Hampton and with 12 wickets Galilee won 169 - 38. In the 4th and final game Galilee versed a different St. Mary’s Hampton team, and were excited to finish with a win 162 - 57.

We were fortunate enough to stay on the same pitch for all our games and get Mr. Greene to umpire, as well as have one substitute so we could have breaks in games while fielding.

Overall, it was a fun and exciting day full of friendly games against other schools with lots of handstands and cartwheels among some of the Galilee girls in their free time.
