Grade 5 Report

Science Incursion:  Reactive Chemistry in Action!

Our Grade 5 children recently took part in an engaging and hands-on Incursion with Hands on Science. It was great as they were able to explore the exciting world of Reactive Chemistry in a fun way!

During the session, students participated in a variety of experiments that helped them investigate reversible and irreversible changes. Using common household substances, they observed how mixing matter can lead to changes in colour, state of matter, and temperature, making abstract scientific concepts come alive.

A crowd favourite was comparing reactions between yeast and hydrogen peroxide and also looking at how vinegar and baking soda react together. Students were amazed as mixtures bubbled, fizzed, and grew before their eyes, sparking plenty of excitement, curiosity, and thoughtful discussion.

The incursion provided a fantastic opportunity for students to actively explore chemical reactions while learning all about how we observe experiments.

It was a memorable experience that truly brought science to life and left our students buzzing with enthusiasm for learning! We certainly have a few scientists at Preston Primary.
