Leadership updates and reflections

Welcome Back to Term 4!

Welcome back to Term 4!  It was great to see so many smiling faces and hear about holiday adventures. We hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break and have returned feeling recharged, refreshed and ready for another busy and exciting term ahead. There is certainly plenty happening over the coming weeks!

There are some fantastic highlights to look forward to this term. Our Grade 4 students will be heading off to Phillip Island next week for their camp, followed by our Grade 5/6 students who will enjoy their camp experience at Kangaroobie. We are also eagerly anticipating our school production of Beauty and the Beast Jnr, which promises to be a wonderful celebration of our students' talents and hard work. Our P–4 students will also be making a splash with swimming this term, providing chances for learning, confidence-building and fun in the water. And the end of year celebrations will include our Carols Night and the Grade 6 Graduation!  All wonderful traditions for our students and community!

Welcome to our 2027 Preps!

We are very excited to welcome the newest members of our school community when the Prep 2027 transition sessions begin this week. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity for our future Preps to become familiar with our school, meet their teachers and begin forming friendships with their new classmates. We are really looking forward to meeting our new preps and their families as they begin their exciting primary school journey.

Working Bee - Saturday, October 17th

A reminder that our next Working Bee will be held on Saturday, October 17th from 8:30am – 12:30pm. There will be plenty to do, including mulching our gardens and generally tidying up around the school. Working bees are a great way to contribute to our school community, meet other families and help make our grounds a welcoming and safe place for our students. We would love to see you there!

Planning for 2027

In the next few weeks, classroom teachers will begin planning class groupings for next year.  If your child has educational needs that you feel require special consideration for class placement in 2027, you are invited to email this information to the school.  Please ensure that only one request is provided as multiple requests cannot be considered.  Please email the school at wonga.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au by Friday, November 6th.                                                                                                                                                                We also kindly ask that if you are planning to leave Wonga Park PS at the end of 2026, please inform the school office as soon as you are able to. Your timely communication is greatly appreciated (this excludes current Grade 6 students).

We look forward to a wonderful Term 4 filled with learning, celebrations and coming together as a community.

Warm regards

Julie

Welcome Back

A warm welcome back to Term 4! It’s hard to believe the final term 2026 is already here.

There’s plenty to look forward to, including camps, our school production, swimming, transition activities and Grade 6 Graduation. We’re excited to welcome our 2027 Prep students on Wednesday and share these special experiences with our students and families.

Disability and Inclusion

Dyslexia Awareness: Understanding and Supporting Our Learners

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, and this week provides an opportunity to build understanding of dyslexia and other specific learning disorders.

Dyslexia is a learning difference that can make accurate and fluent reading and spelling challenging. It is not a reflection of a child’s intelligence, effort or potential. Each child has their own strengths, interests and support needs, and understanding these helps us create opportunities for success.

A learning community where every student feels supported, included and capable is what we strive for. Explicit teaching, opportunities to practise, timely support and adjustments that help students access learning all contribute to this goal. Equally important is listening to children and recognising the effort they put into tasks that may be challenging for them.

Families can help by enjoying books together, reading aloud and celebrating progress. Audiobooks and conversations about stories can also support children’s enjoyment of books while their reading skills develop.

If you have concerns about your child’s reading or spelling, please speak with their classroom teacher. Working together helps us understand your child’s needs and identify appropriate support.

Cyber Safety Project

Cyber Safety Essentials

In the final week of Term 3, our staff completed the last module of the Cyber Safety Project’s professional learning program, Cyber Safety Essentials.

The module explored cyber threats, different types of cybercrime and online risks, alongside best practices for cyber security and privacy. Staff also examined their professional responsibilities for protecting data and information, and practical ways to strengthen personal cyber security.

The PL was a valuable opportunity for staff to reflect on the small, everyday steps we can take to keep information safe as we continue to support our students in navigating the online world safely and confidently.
