Deputy Principal

Mrs Naomi Corfield

NATIONAL PRINCIPAL'S DAY!

This day recognises the hard work and dedication of primary school principals across the country. It's an opportunity for school communities and the wider public to show appreciation for their leadership and the positive impact they have on students' lives.

So, we surprised Mrs Black with some gifts of appreciation at Assembly on Friday. Thanks to Izzy and Lucas for presenting the gifts.

I think we can all agree that Mrs Black has slotted into the St Mary's community beautifully. The staff and students are grateful for her calm and considered leadership and we look forward to the wonderful things that will continue to flourish under her leadership.

THANK YOU MRS BLACK!  💐

TAKE A BREAK SPACE

You may have noticed the new addition to our Discovery Room. The Take a Break Space can be utilised by anyone across our school and is part of our Positive Approach to Behaviour. We understand and value the range of emotions that our little people can experience across a day. We teach and encourage students to pro-actively identify their feelings and utilise the appropriate tools to re-set and regulate so that they are at their best for learning.

Our approach will continue to be:

  1. Be Aware - of your actions and how it is affecting you and those around you
  2. Move and Think - a chance to position yourself so that you are more focused and less distractive
  3. Take a Break - use the space in your classroom to engage in calm activities that will help to regulate and re-set so that you can return to learning
  4. Have a Chat - a chance to seek the support of a teacher or leader outside the learning area

This is where we can utilise the Take a Break Space in the Discovery Room.

We have resourced this space with games, puzzles, toys, fidgets and furniture designed to support co-regulation and self-regulation. There are clear boundaries and procedures around the use of this space which all students and staff are aware of.

Feel free to come in and take a look for yourself at this wonderful space.
