AUTHOR / ILLUSTRATOR - GREGG DREISE

Last week we welcomed Gregg to our school. What fun times and insights Gregg provided.

Kindergarten, Yr 1, Yr 2 and Yrs 3 and 4  were treated to storytelling with a difference. Gregg used his didgeridoo and guitar to bring to life his Kookoo Kookaburra picture book.

Gregg shared with the students stories of culture, pride and his own family to help us understand the meanings behind his stories.

The students in Yr 5 , 6 were shown how using lines, either smooth or sharp and pointed in an illustration, can change the emotion of a character. Gregg encouraged the students to write, write, write about what they are interested in.

Gregg was extremely generous with his time, chatting to students afterwards, even offering one of our staff, who is writing her own picture book, a few pointers in the right direction.

Lucas and Kyrie from Yr 1 brought along their own Gregg Dreise books to be signed and Gregg signed the books in the library. Thankyou Gregg.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

What a fantastic Friday we had! With perfect weather, enthusiastic student competitors, and incredible parent volunteers, the day was a huge success.  Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day on the bbq, timekeeping, running sheets, handing out place sticks and helping on field events, including the Year 9/10 McCarthy Catholic College students who assisted with field events and the Infants carnival. Thank you also to the Armidale Catholic Schools Primary Sports Coordinator Heidi Hardaker who came to help on the day and the amazing staff at St Nicholas who are always happy to take on any job they are given.

The Infants participated in novelty races, an obstacle course and the all important 70m sprint. Certainly a joy to watch our up and coming athletes participate in the carnival.

A big congratulations to Dominic, who took home the overall win! Edmund Rice came in second, Mackillop third, and Edmund Rice in fourth.
