Book Week 2025
"The library is not just full of books, but also opportunities."
Abbey 2016
Students have been encouraged to borrow a few extra books for the holidays.
A recent article suggested "Research says to read about 20 minutes a day, but even if you can achieve 10 minutes a day, that's substantial" says RMIT's Dr Meg Elkins, a behavioural economist who has studied reading for years.
"Reading allows you to go into deep focus... it builds empathy curiosity and helps you understand life from another perspective" Dr M Elkins.
Associate Prof - University of Notre Dame Australia, Dr Margaret Kristin Merga, says that parents play a key role in forming life-long readers, which research shows have better attention spans, reduced stress and improved mental health. "Daily reading for pleasure at seven years of age is linked to better pro-social behaviour and lower levels of hyperactivity and attention issues at age 11"
These points were from an article in the "Wellness" liftout in the Sunday Telegraph.
We had a wonderful visit from author and illustrator Gregg Dreise, last Thursday.
Gregg conducted storytelling and illustrating workshops with the students.
Here are some of Gregg's books, which we will be enjoying over the next few weeks.
More information on the SPOTLIGHT.

This year the theme is "BOOK AN ADVENTURE"
The Children's Book Council Of Australia celebrates 80 years of Children's Book Week this year, a marvellous milestone of connecting children to story. In the following weeks, we will have lots of fun discussing this theme and how it relates to our reading journey. I look forward to hearing some wonderful insights from the students.
"The library is not just full of books, but also opportunities."
Abbey 2016
This quote was submitted on a library leader application back in 2016.
Abbey explained that the library is not just book shelves laden with books. The library is full of ideas and adventures and opportunities to learn something new, to try something new, maybe to meet someone new.
It's approaching fast, Week 5 in fact.
Over the holidays take the time to ask your child/children if they have a favourite book character they would like to dress up as.
Eftpos will be available. Same as previous years - students browse then bring home a wish list which you may pay online, cash with your child or come in yourself and shop with your child. More information next term.
Another edition of LIBRARY NEWS was released on Monday. Thankyou to the editors, Lily Cannon, Lucy Milne and Layla Sumner. Highlights included NAIDOC Week, Gregg's visit, and an envelope for classes to submit book recommendations from their class.
Special thankyou to visiting ex Library Leader Lucy Crockett for assisting with the assembly of the book envelopes.
Check out the activities for your family.

Every Friday we pack up the technology and enjoy chatting to each other, reading, playing games, colouring in and jigsaws. Does anyone have any jigsaws they would like to donate to the library please?
Please note a LIBRARY BAG is the first item on your child's equipment list for the year.
Thank you for ensuring your child has a library bag. I have some spares and will issue these to students next week who have not yet presented with a bag.
LIBRARY BAGS MATTER... Not just some of the time but all of the time.
No food or drink on my books.
Food and drink are for the chooks.
Library bags keep ‘em clean.
Books are cool don’t treat ‘em mean.
Bring your bag every time.
Fill it up and get in line.
Have it scanned and scoot on out.
LIBRARY BAGS
We all shout.
