GENERAL NEWS

NAIDOC WEEK 2025

"The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy"!

It sounds like a powerful and forward-looking theme that truly encapsulates the ongoing journey and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Highlighting the strength and leadership of younger generations and emphasising the importance of intergenerational wisdom are crucial elements for fostering continued growth and self-determination within Indigenous communities. It's a theme that will undoubtedly inspire and resonate deeply  with our St Nicholas students and community.

The children have enjoyed a wonderful week of cultural celebrations and activities here at school organised by our Aboriginal Education Assistants, Mr Trevor French and Mrs Sharni Upward. The week kicked off with our whole school NAIDOC assembly where Priya Hitchcock and Jax Graf were awarded our "Keeping Culture" awards for 2025. Congratulations to Priya and Jax.

We were also delighted with a performance from our cultural dance group which is always a crowd favorite.  Our assembly was followed up by a small morning tea enjoyed with students and families.

Through out the week our students also had the chance to be involved in various different Aboriginal themed activities and games. A wonderful week all around.

UPDATE ON OUR STUDENT LED LEARNING CONFERENCES

Thank you to our parents for showing that they value their child's education by attending their Student Led Learning Conferences. It was a great buzz around the school and it was wonderful hearing the students explaining the next steps in their learning. Thank you also to our teachers for the work that they put into preparing the students.

ICAS ASSESMENT

MOBILE PHONES

This term, there have not been many students handing in their phones to the front office compared to last term. Please remind your child that if they are bringing a mobile phone to school, they must hand it into the office at the beginning of the day. They are stored securely and students can collect them when dismissed from class. Thank you for your support with this. Please note that if your child is wearing a smart watch to school, the 'school mode' must be activated during school hours.

VERITAS

Our Veritas Awards stem from our school motto - ‘Veritas’ - meaning truth. The Veritas Award is awarded to students who have been consistently displaying citizenship, leadership and/or Christian Living. Students receiving a Veritas Award are those students who have displayed our ‘Rules for Living’ in their everyday interactions. We announce our Veritas award recipients at Friday morning assemblies every fortnight. Congratulations to: Zoey Attard,  Emma Kelly, Addison O'Connor, Audrey Goodman, Audrey Daley, Mahlia Pendergast, Sahara Ioasa, Kingston Davies, Tommy Cunningham, Zahlee Whetton, Lexi Cann, Sophia Jarratt, Evleen Kaur, Moss van Houten, Ruby Heywood, Catherine Ross-Bibito, Myah Prussing, Roy Bates and Kate Wiseman.

SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS

All parents need to be aware, our supervision of students

does not begin until 8.15am each day.

St Nicholas School gates will not be open until the arrival of the first school bus at approximately 8.10am. It is not appropriate for children to be at school before this time with no supervision.

If your child/ren require care before 8.15am you may like to consider before school care here at school with Esteem.
