Instrumental Soirees

We recently held our Instrumental Soirees over three evenings, on Monday 25th, Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th May. These consisted of our Brass, Woodwind and Bass Soiree, followed by our Guitar and Percussion Soiree and finally our Keyboard and Voice Soiree. It was wonderful to see our students performing either solos, or in small groups, for their friends and family, and it was great to see so much support in the audiences for our students. This performance was also a major part of our student’s assessment for Semester 1 reports. Instrumental students are also assessed on their commitment to their Instrumental Practice and their ensemble.

VCE Recital Night

On Tuesday June 2nd our VCE Music Students performed at our VCE Recital Night. Each VCE student is required to present a 10 minute program in Semester 1. Students had been formally assessed in class, and this concert was a chance for family and friends to hear their progress. There was a wide range of music performed, from classical to contemporary styles, and students had put a lot of time into their practice for this assessment. We’ll hear from them again later in the year, and look forward in particular to hearing our Year 12’s prior to their final performance exam.

Concert Band Retirement Village Performance

The Concert Band visited Weary Dunlop Retirement Village in Wheelers Hill on Tuesday June 9th. This band consists of students from Years 8 and 9 who are in their second and third year of learning an instrument. The residents from Weary Dunlop really enjoyed the range of music played by the band, and in particular enjoyed their last piece – ‘Clowning Around’. A number of students also performed solos or duets. A highlight of these events is the opportunity for the students to talk to residents after the performance. We even came across an ex Wheelers Hill SC teacher! We look forward to continuing to engage with local retirement villages and schools in the area with our music ensembles later in the year.

Winter Concert

Our Winter Concert, which is one of our major ensemble performance events for the year, is coming up in Term 3, on Tuesday August 11th. This event will be held at 7pm in the Bunjil Centre (D01). All students involved in our instrumental program will be performing at this event in their ensemble/s. Students should therefore ensure they are attending all ensemble rehearsals so that they are well prepared for this performance. An event will appear on Compass in the near future, so please ensure consent is provided. Tickets available Now via trybooking link below or QR code.
