Hello Kids and Families,

Winter is at the door, and I hope it passes quickly! One thing I enjoy about winter is that we tend to eat more comforting food. I especially love baking during this season — bread, cakes, and many other treats that are perfect for cold weather.

This winter I will be travelling back to my home country, Italy, for the summer holidays. I will be away from the 22nd of June until the 8th of September, visiting family and enjoying some wonderful food and time together.

Bridget and Lucia will continue preparing delicious meals as usual and will make sure everyone is happy and well looked after.

Recently, I had the privilege of speaking with an Aboriginal elder to learn more about the rich history, culture, and traditions of the First Nations people of Australia. It was a very meaningful experience and helped me better understand the deep connection Aboriginal people have with the land, food, storytelling, and community.

As part of this learning journey, we would like to respectfully introduce the children to some Indigenous Australian ingredients and traditional foods. Over the coming weeks we will prepare meals such as damper and wallaby, using native ingredients including wattle seed and other bush foods. Through cooking and sharing food together, we hope the children can develop curiosity, respect, and appreciation for the world’s oldest living culture and the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and learn.

I am very excited about this project and grateful for the opportunity to continue learning and sharing these experiences with the children.

I wish you all a fantastic weekend, and I look forward to seeing you again soon.
