Paddock to Plate

(Ms Bush)

Week 1

We are all having plenty of hands-on time in the kitchen, purposefully cooking in readiness for the Warrion Flower Show on the 28th of October. First week back students all made banana pikelets, working in small groups, with extra tasks of cutting savoury scones and rolling and cutting gingerbread. Last week consisted of gearing up for our fundraising with students making minestrone and curry lentil soup. P/1/2’s finished off the last of the gingerbread that we will be offering for young children to ice and decorate at the show.

Students will have the opportunity on Monday 26th of October to make and enter in the Warrion Flower Show in the under 18 competitions. Preps will decorate Marie biscuits, Year 1-2’s will make and decorate vanilla cupcakes, Year 3-4’s will make and ice muffins and year 5-6’s will make a no bake slice. Our items will be collected and set up in readiness for Wednesday the 28th October. Thank you in advance for any assistance on the day. I will be there with students as we set up and attend to soup, savoury scone serving and gingerbread decorating. Any baking on the day offered by families will be well received. Baked goods will need to be non-perishable and well labelled with ingredients.

Thank you to Cororooke Store for supporting the Alvie Primary School ‘Paddock 2 Plate’ program by selling flowers from my garden over the school holidays to help cover some of the costs associated with our Warrion Flower Show cooking entries. A donation from families of $2 per child will be welcomed to cover the cost of baking ingredients, icing and decorative/special ingredients for these entries showcasing the Paddock 2 Plate program and our student’s progressive cooking skills.

Week 2&3

In this last week everyone busied themselves working with their team in readiness for the Warrion Flower Show under 18 Cooking Competition. P-2 class decorated Marie biscuits using icing and sprinkles and made a packet cupcake mix with a partner. All students worked needed to work through this process in their partnership without any assistance. Year 3-4 students made cupcakes with a twist in partnership with a classmate. These will be decorated this coming Monday prior to Warrion Flower Show on Wednesday the 28th of October. Seniors had an excursion on the Monday and fortunately the opportunity to complete a partner unbaked slice (hedgehog) or chocolate balls. The group of 2-3 randomly selecting a sweet to add originality to their creation. Super proud of how inclusively they all worked together in their team. Seniors will decorate their hedgehog and ensure they have a card identifying their ingredients and the champions who stepped up to make such fantastic food to be show cased on the day. Well done on all your efforts Team Alvie!

Big shout out to Michael for keeping up the water to our plants. We have collected some stunning cauliflowers that we will get to cook with in the coming week. Thank you in advance to the parents who are able to create time to cook and add on to our food stall at the Warrion Flower Show. We will need to have a list of ingredients, date made and your name. Thank you also to the couple of parents who have been able to set aside time to assist on the day. So appreciated! Blessed!
