Purple House

THE PURPLE PRESS

Hi everyone,

My name is Matt Hosking and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the House Leader for the Purple Vikings.

The start to the 2024 academic year has been an incredibly positive one, with our students consistently striving for the highest.  Term 1 is always an action-packed term, with so many events, activities and opportunities for our students. It has been incredibly pleasing to see our Purple House students get involved in the plethora of learning and extra curricula activities available to them at BHS.

Welcome to our Year 7s:

This year, we have had two classes join our House at Year 7. Both 7Purple and 7Urple students are quickly settling into their new learning environment, and in doing so, we have seen them adopt our school values of Respect, Opportunity and Resilience. As our House, we’re excited to have 43 new students join our community, and if their exploits and participation at the Swimming Carnival are anything to go by, then we have every confidence that they will help take Purple House from strength to strength over the next 6 years. Both classes will head off on two separate but overlapping camps in Week 6 and we look forward to getting away and experiencing all that Camp Tanybryn and surrounds has to offer. Keep an eye out in a forthcoming Newsletter article for student reports on these two camps.

Year 12 Camp:

What a pleasure it was to attend and participate in the Year 12 Camp. Together with their Form teacher, Mr Mitchell and I, we enjoyed two fun-filled days down in Anglesea. This was a fantastic opportunity to spend some quality time with a wonderful group of students. The class of 2024 are an incredibly connected, mature, respectful and enthusiastic bunch and across the two days they immersed themselves in the leadership and reflection sessions, and they demonstrated their eagerness and resilience by participating in the stand-up paddle-boarding and high ropes course. Finally, well done to those that nominated and applied for the role of House Captain. I am pleased to announce that Purple House will be ably led by Ava Masljak & Archie Harrison (House Captains) and Ethan Skene & Liv Alexander (Vice Captains). I look forward to working with you and supporting you all throughout your final year of school.

Swimming carnival:

Well done and congratulations to all Purple House students for their participation and efforts at the school Swimming Carnival. We went one better than last year and WON, finishing with the most points of all 8 houses!! It was a great atmosphere on the day and I was impressed with the high levels of participation, which went a long way to securing victory. There were also many outstanding purple costumes!! Well done to everyone and let’s continue with the high levels of participation at the annual Fun-run and Athletics Carnival.

Viking of the month:

At each house assembly, we will be recognising and rewarding one Purple House student that has demonstrated our school values and continually strived for the highest. This award is known as: ‘Viking of the month’.

Congratulations to our first Viking of the month for 2024- Sara Emmerson of 7Urple. Sara has been recognised for her participation and efforts at the swimming carnival and she has been awarded with a canteen voucher. Congratulations Sara!

To all the Purple House families, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns throughout the year. I look forward to having a really positive 2024 and beyond.
