7G Camp to Tanybryn Student Reflections

Last week, Year 7 Gold were the first group to visit our school camp down at Tanybryn. We were super lucky to have some beautiful sunny weather and the students were really keen to get involved in all of the activities that we took part in. It was really great to see the Gold group build new relationships with their peers and teachers and enjoy exploring the sights around camp. The Year 7’s worked hard to write some reflections of their time camp, and they have done a great job of summarising some of the fun that they had:

On the 12th of February I got on a little white bus with my class to go to Tanybryn camp. But before we got there we made a stop in Lorne to have a surf lesson. We were on the bus for an hour before we arrived in Lorne. Once we got there we all went into the toilets to get changed into our bathers and the wetsuits that the people from the ‘Go Ride a Wave’ company gave us. Once we were all ready the people giving the lesson told us about how to carry the leg rope and the surf boards to the beach. After about a minute of carrying the leg ropes and foam surf boards we got to the beach, we dropped everything and then ran into the icy cold water. I ran back to the sand so I could learn how to surf. I have been wanting to learn to surf for quite a while, so I was very excited especially since I got to do it with my friends. For a while we were just on the beach learning to paddle and stand up. But then after what felt like forever we were finally allowed to go out in the water and try to surf on the little waves. Now I know how difficult it is to surf. However I did manage to stand up and ride a few waves before falling off into the chilly water.

The next day was jam packed! To start the day we went on the bus AGAIN. We did the Maits Rest Rainforest Walk which to my Suprise was really short. We were all hoping to see a snail that eats meat but unfortunately, we didn’t see any. We could have walked past one and not even noticed because they are super small. When we finished the walk and got back to the platform where we started, we had a little break to eat some fruit.

We all loaded ourselves back on to the minibus and we headed for Mariners look out. When we finally got to Mariners look we had to make the ‘’long and exhausting walk’’ up the hill. Once we reached the top of the hill, we all realized that the walk was worth it because the view was spectacular. After we spent a while posing for the camera we walked back down the hill and back onto the minibus and we finally headed back to Apollo Bay.

On the way to Apollo Bay, I saw the cutest wild wallaby ever. When we finally got to Apollo Bay, we were all so hungry, so the teachers took us to George’s for some fish n chips. ‘’Let me tell you it was the best fish n chips I have ever had in my enter life’’. After we had lunch, the teachers let us go explore the shops. There was not a lot of shops, so Mackenzie and I went into the local IGA for some sweets. It was finally time to make our pizzas for dinner. I and many others all went with the tomato sauce, cheese and bacon theme. After eating our delicious pizzas Mr. Fanning announced that it was time for the trivia to begin. That night was a night full of brain busting and chocolate.
