We can not believe that we are half way through the year. Time flies when you're having fun! Over the past two weeks we have been busy consolidating our learning by revising learnt material through games, My Numeracy and My Literacy activities plus learning new concepts as well.
In Literacy we have learnt about beginning blends such as flag and final blends such as duck. We have also learnt about digraphs which are two letters making one sound. So far we have learnt about sh, ng, ph, wh, th, ch and the trigraph tch. We have continued our work with our heart words with games, reading and writing these words into sentences. We have also been learning how to read and write sentences with exclamation marks and question marks, plus using our knowledge of syllables to chunk sections of words to read and write.
Congratulations to the following students who are so far, our Reading Night Champions:
Floyd: over 125 nights
Daxton: over 125 nights

In Numeracy we completed our work on capacity, mass and length and have been learning about location this week. Students loved using the Bee Bots to move their robot forward, back, left and right.

To celebrate all that we have learnt about in Design Technologies and our unit on Farm to Family, where we learnt about where our food comes from, we made smoothies with milk and ice cream from cows, the sugar in icecream from sugar cane plants and bananas and berries from plants. YUM!

We absolutely loved watching the Grade 5/6 plays. Well done everyone. We were so proud of our buddies.

A reminder that on Friday 24th July, we will be celebrating 100 days at school. Students are invited to dress with a '100' theme in mind and bring in 100 of something, such as stickers, paperclips, pegs or marbles.
We wish our beautiful students and their families a wonderful, safe holiday. We will see you all again on Monday 13th July. If you would like to practise what we have been learning about on the holidays with your child, inside your child's diary are log in codes for My Numeracy, My Literacy and Little Learners Love Literacy texts. At the back of these texts there are comprehension questions to help your child understand what they are reading.
How to help your child at home with their literacy.

On Wednesday's Staff dress up in different themes and costumes for the students, which they love!! This week, Mrs Guy, Mrs Murphy, Mrs Monson and Miss Thomas thought we would be grade 6 students!!

Our students in the 1/2 Grades have been enjoying all the nature popping up outside around our school oval and surrounding areas, at recess and lunch play. We have had lots of discussions, around even though our mushrooms look pretty 🍄🍄, we can not pick them, as they can make us really sick. We have been super fascinated by discovering caterpillars on our trees 🐛🐛 and wonder if they will make a cocoon and turn into a butterfly or not. 🦋🦋. Lots of little patches of purple flowers 🪻🪻have been popping up on the oval. How lucky are our students that they can engage in so much nature at school.

Students in Term 2 had to look at a problem in our classroom and then create a solution for how it could be fixed. They could pick their own problem; they had to write what the problem was and create a plan for how it could be fixed. They had to work out the steps of their design and what materials they would need. They then got to create their design out of boxes. Students really enjoyed this experience. 📦📦

Students have been learning about morphology, which is the study of word parts and how those parts help us understand word meanings. We have continued learning about prefixes and suffixes in class.

Students have finished their unit on Multiplication and Division. It was pleasing to see how much growth all our students had made. 🤩 Students have done a pre-test this week, for our topic we will be doing in Term 3, on Algebra and Patterns.
A pre-test is a test we give the students before we start our work on a particular unit of maths. So that as teachers, we can see what knowledge they already have on the topic and what they need to know. We can then focus our planning and lessons around the correct content.
