Macbeth and Dracula

Our recent focus has been completely directed towards bringing our plays "Macbeth" and "Dracula" to life for your viewing pleasure on Thursday. During the term we have learnt a great deal about stage craft and understanding the charaters beyond the script. We have all practised using our voices to project feelings, emphasise phrases or words and add expression to the delivery of lines. Although not all students have speaking parts in these plays, we have all worked together to produce props and support each other through rehersals as we refined our final production.
We are so proud of the attitude and effort all students have displayed during this play preparation. The energy has certainly been very high! We hope you all enjoyed the shows as much as we enjoyed bringing them to you!

Interschool Sport
Thank you so much to Miss Atherton for organising our Interschool sport excursion. This gives all our students the opportunity to play as part of a team and is especially valuable to those who do not play an organised sport outside of school. The behaviour and sportsmanship of our students was exceptional as usual, and everyone enjoyed the day. Thanks to everyone who helped our teams prepare for the day with skill development and team building.
Mathematics
We finished our work on measuring and creating angles with some creative string art. After carefully measuring intervals of a certain angle, we used string to create patterns and experimented with different measurements and therefore different designs. Once studens had settled on a design, they were able to create them from cardboard and wool.

Our work this week has been around decimals. Rounding decimals, adding and subtracting and completing these processes in relation to money.
AUSLAN
We had a bit of fun translating sections on our plays into AUSLAN. Students worked with a partner to select an scene and present it to the class as though they were AUSLAN interpreters. Everyone was very supportive of each other, helping to translate and encouraging students to present their work to the class.
Digital Technologies
We have been exploring User Interfaces, and what makes them good, bad or annying. Students played a game that was a little frustating and attempted to dessribe what made it that way. We looked at ways to improve the interface by altering the code of the application to improve the user interface. We also looked at good user interafaces and defined what made them easy or difficult to navigate.
Humanities
Our unit of work on consumerism has focused upon work, and future work. We have considerd the reasons people work, other than making money, and had a look at some of the world's weirdest jobs. It was a lot of fun listening to the job applications students wrote to become "Netflix Viewers" or "Professional Sleepers"!
Grade 5 Little Anglers Kits
Please find below, information about the distribution of the Little Anglers kit to grade 5 students during August;
The Victorian Government is committed to increasing the number and diversity of people fishing and enjoying Victoria’s local seafood, growing healthy and sustainable fisheries sectors and contributing to Victoria’s social and economic prosperity. This is why the Victorian Government distributed 95,000 Little Angler kits to primary aged students in 2023/24, via the Victorian Fisheries Authority, as part of a $1.5M election commitment, funded via the sale of Victorian recreational fishing licences, i.e. funded by recreational fishers.
The aim of this election commitment was to continue to grow recreational fishing participation in Victoria, by actively encouraging primary school aged children to learn more about the art of fishing, marine life and the natural environment. Encouraging children to be outside and active aligns with whole of Victorian Government initiatives underway to optimise health, wellbeing, connectedness and inclusiveness in Victoria.
Following the successful implementation of the commitment, the Victorian Government will run the program again in 2026, via the Victorian Fisheries Authority, offering 82,500 Little Angler kits to primary school children in 2026.
The FREE kits provide a wonderful school holiday activity for children with their families and help ease the cost of living, providing a fun activity close to home.
Grade 5 students at all Victorian schools, including ours, will be offered the opportunity to receive a FREE Little Angler Kit. Grade 5 students have been selected based on the Victorian Curriculum focus, movement and motor development, and safety considerations.
The program is entirely voluntary. Schools were provided with the option to opt out of the program. Our school has opted to stay in the program so that parents can decide whether they want their child(ren) to receive a fishing kit.
Opt out - Parents of Grade 5 students can advise the school if they do not wish their child(ren) to participate for any reason whatsoever. We support parents in making decisions that align with their family values and beliefs.
Receiving kits -The roll out of kits will occur in August 2026 so that all participating children will have a kit in time for the September school holidays.
The kits include a rod, reel with line, tackle tray, some tackle (including fishing hooks and lead-free sinkers) and information on how to use them to catch a fish. The tackle tray will be wrapped in cardboard and placed inside a pocket inside the fishing kit bag, which will be sealed with a cable tie to discourage students from opening their kits until they are with a parent or carer. The kits will also have a safety label attached to the outside of the kit bag, recommending that students wait to open the kits until they are under the care and supervision of an adult.
Kits will be handed out to students to take home with them as soon as the school receives them. Teachers will tell students not to open the kits until they are safely at home with a parent or carer, however parents can contact the school and request to collect their kit from the school themselves if they prefer.
