Climate Canons

Earth Day

April 22 was Earth Day, an annual global observation to raise awareness of environmental issues that negatively impact our planet. The planet’s health is a critical point of concern and Earth Day aims to encourage us toward more sustainable solutions. It does this through rallying people together, educating, inspiring, and mobilising both individuals and entire communities to appreciate the importance of the environment and its protection. The Climate Canons commemorated this event with an Earth Day photo competition. Students could submit a photo that they had taken from anywhere of our beautiful Earth. They had to include a caption of what the photo was of and state why it is important to protect planet Earth.

Thank you to all the students who participated, they were all beautiful reminders of our incredible planet. Congratulations to Aria Pinkerton (Yr 8), Mateo van Heerwaarden (Yr 9) and Ann Baiju (Yr 11) for submitting the winning shots. Their winning images are included at the top of the page.

Minor prizes go to Abbie Tyson (Yr 7), Crystal Shaiju (Yr 7), Aryan Taneja (Yr 7), Vincent Harper (Yr 7), Caitlin Nicholls (Yr 7), Vanessa Johnson (Yr 7), Poppy Agius (Yr 7), Arya Colletti (Yr 9) and Gyanbi Shrestha (Yr 12) for their great effort and can be seen below.
