Q Music
Saints Old Boy Stu Watters from Q Music came to the College last Thursday to speak to our Indigenous students about opportunities in the music industry. Stu was in Cairns organising the Yarrabah Music Festival, Cairns Music Makers Day Professional Development and Dream Aloud at Munro Martin Park.
The students spent an hour listening and asking some great questions about pathways in the industry. We thank Stu for giving our students such a great opportunity and we look forward to seeing him again next year.
AMEB Exams
Over the past two months a significant number of our students took Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) practical and theory exams. Many achieved outstanding results, due to their dedication and self-discipline. Congratulations to all the students who participated, and well done on your fantastic achievements.
Upcoming events
We have a slightly quieter term ahead. However, there are a couple of dates that are very important. Saints Unplugged Junior is in Week 6. Any student interested in performing at that evening should email Mrs Spannenburg ASAP.
Students are required to attend the Awards evening, so please mark it in your diary to ensure there are no clashes.
Next year
There are several exciting and rewarding events being planned for 2025 already. A calendar of these will be put into future newsletters for events to be diarised.
Spirit of Arts Awards
This award has been developed to recognise the work our arts students put into the College and wider community. It also serves as an encouragement for those students to take it a step further by mentoring younger students or organising an event themselves. The application is available now on the student portal or a hard copy can be obtained from the Arts/Music Department staffroom. If your son has exhibited artwork, entered work in a film festival, participated in the musical, sat external exams, performed at Eisteddfod, etc. they are eligible to apply.
2024
Information for events and performances can be found on the Arts Department Facebook page. There will be information in the newsletter and parent slips sent out. Below is a calendar of events planned so far. This is added to during the year, so please reread it in each newsletter to check that you are abreast of all that is happening.
