GENTLE HEARTS

It was great to see our students return focused and ready to begin work following the holidays. At this early point in the term, I want to reinforce with them the importance the College places on respect for one another. Politeness and good manners are a suitable starting place as is the expression, thank you.  

Students are reminded to wear the uniform correctly too, which includes – shirt tucked in, long socks five centimetres below the knee, an ordinary black belt and lace-up black shoes. St Augustine’s also expects students to come to school with the correct haircut – hair no shorter than a blade-three comb, fringe not below the eyebrow. Artificial colouring, tracking, cut-in designs, fades, mullets or any other abrupt changes in length are not acceptable. 

The importance of setting and reviewing goals  

Setting and reviewing academic and personal goals is of paramount importance for adolescent boys as it lays the foundation for their future success and personal development. Firstly, it instils a sense of purpose and direction, providing them with a clear roadmap to follow. This not only helps them stay focused on their studies but also empowers them to make informed decisions about their academic and extracurricular pursuits. 

Additionally, goal setting fosters a sense of responsibility and accountability, teaching them the value of time management and discipline. It encourages them to take ownership of their own education and personal growth. Moreover, this practice promotes self-awareness and self-reflection, enabling boys to identify their strengths and areas that require improvement. By regularly reviewing their progress, they gain a deeper understanding of their capabilities and limitations, allowing them to make necessary adjustments and set higher benchmarks. Ultimately, this process cultivates a lifelong habit of setting and achieving objectives, equipping adolescent boys with the skills and mindset necessary for a successful and fulfilling future. 

In Pastoral Care lessons early this term, your sons are reviewing their academic and personal goals from Term 3 and setting new goals for this term. It is essential that you are a part of this process and have a conversation with your sons regarding their recent reports and goals. The process is in the student diary.
