Year 3 students at Lyndhurst Primary School have made a fantastic start to Term 4, diving into our exciting new Inquiry unit focusing on Sustainability and Design and Technologies. Throughout the term, students will explore how small actions can make a big difference to our environment and discover how thoughtful design can help create a more sustainable future.

During Week 1, our budding environmental champions began investigating the important concepts of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Through engaging classroom discussions and collaborative learning activities, students explored the impact our everyday choices can have on the planet. They shared thoughtful ideas about reducing waste, reusing everyday materials and recycling correctly, while considering practical ways to make our classrooms, homes and wider community more environmentally friendly.

A highlight of our first week was the creation of our ‘My Earth Heart. Students reflected on what they love about our planet and identified meaningful actions they can take to help protect it. Their colourful and creative work showcased not only their artistic talents but also their growing understanding of environmental responsibility. We are excited to share some photos of these wonderful creations!

As the term progresses, students will build on this learning by exploring our second big Inquiry question: ‘How do we design a sustainable community?’ Through our Design and Technologies focus, students will be encouraged to think creatively, solve problems and consider how communities can be designed to reduce their environmental impact.

We look forward to seeing our Year 3 students continue developing into thoughtful, creative and environmentally responsible citizens. After all, small changes today can make a big difference tomorrow!
