Attendance Matters

Student Absence Learning Plans (SALPs)

Are you planning an extended holiday?

When a student is expected to be absent from school for an extended period (more than five school days), the school is required to develop a Student Absence Learning Plan (SALP) in partnership with parents/carers and the student.

A SALP is designed to:

  • support continuity of learning during an extended absence
  • maintain the student’s connection to classroom learning
  • support a positive transition back to school

It is important to note that a Student Absence Learning Plan does not replace classroom teaching and learning experiences.

Families are asked to notify the school a minimum of two weeks in advance if an extended absence is planned. Notification may be provided via a Compass absence note or by email to the school. Early communication allows staff adequate time to discuss the absence and prepare relevant learning materials where appropriate.

We value the partnership between home and school in supporting regular attendance and ensuring every student has the best opportunity to learn, participate, and succeed.

If your family requires support with attendance, or if you would like to discuss your child’s circumstances, please contact the school. We are committed to working in partnership with families to support every student’s engagement, wellbeing, and learning success.

Important reminder - Late arrival of students

A recent analysis of the late arrival data in the last two week period shows that there were a total 346 late arrivals.  This is extremely high!

Arriving late to school results in students missing the opportunity to connect with thier class and receive the important messages of the day.  Classrooms are open from 8:50am each morning and we encourage all students to arrive by this time to settle in before the day begins.

We ask that families make it a priority to ensure students arrive prior to 9:00am each day.

If a student is late to school a parent/guardian MUST come to the office to ensure they are signed in via the Compass Kiosk.

Important reminder - Early collection of students

Families are reminded of the importance of adhering to the early collection procedure for students.

This procedure is designed to support the best interests of both teachers and students, ensuring optimal teaching and learning conditions for all.

Our preferred early collection times are:

Break #1 - 10:35am or 11:10am

OR

Break #2 - 12:45pm or 1:50pm

Early collection at the beginning or end of break times has proven to be less disruptive to classroom routines and assists administration staff in locating students quickly and efficiently for families.

Please note: Administration staff are unable to sign students out during a school assembly. Parents/guardians will be asked to wait until the assembly has finished if early collection is required during this time.

Parents/guardians are reminded that a valid form of photo ID (driver’s licence or passport) must be presented upon collection.

We thank our families for their consideration and support in adhering to this process.
