Congratulations for all students involved in the Waverley Division Athletics which was held at Knox Athletics Track on Friday the 21st of August. It was an enormous day which saw well over 150 students take to the track and field, giving it their best effort. Numerous records were broken, PBs smashed, and many students have progressed to the EMR championships which will be held on Thursday the 8th of October in week 1 of term 4. It was a terrific day with so many highlights and exceptional performances. Special thank you to the students who came along as emergencies and filled gaps in the program due to absences throughout the day. It is greatly appreciated, and our success would not be possible without your selflessness.
Vermont placed 1st overall for the grand aggregate shield, finishing the day with a total of 1344 points. We were also the recipients of the junior, intermediate and by the skin of our teeth also won the senior shield.

BASKETBALL
Girls
Well done to our Year 7 Girls Basketball team who put on a tremendous performance at the division round robin. For the B team there were a couple of people a bit nervous beforehand, having not played before, however the B team smashed it out of the park winning all three games easily and it was great to see everyone get involved despite the initial hesitancy. The A Team were also on fire all day, winning every game with relative ease despite many having to go on to play their own finals that evening- way to go girls! Cannot wait to see you play at the next round.

Boys/Mixed
Congratulations to our Year 7 Boys Basketball teams on a fantastic performance! Both Team A and Team B played extremely well throughout the competition, achieving some impressive wins with significant margins. The boys demonstrated great teamwork, skill and determination on the court. A special congratulations to Team A, who have progressed to Regional competition. Well done to all players, and good luck to Team A at Regionals!
HOCKEY
Girls
The year 7 girls hockey team had a fantastic day out at Hawthorn hockey club 4/09/2026. With only 3 schools having teams entered teams, Vermont won their first game against Highvale- it was a very close and nerve-wracking game, however Vermont took the win in the end! Our second game against Mount Waverley, the Vermont girls excelled, not letting the opposition score. As we had a 2-win streak, we competed against Highvale for a second time in a ‘finals’ to determine who would progress to regionals. Vermont took the win for the second time against Highvale! The team’s communication, teamwork and strategy paid off. A fantastic effort by all and I can’t wait to see how we go at regionals!
Boys/Mixed
The boys played three close games, with a nil-all draw, a 1- nil win and another nil-all draw. They started the day very new to hockey but learnt the rules, passed well and had some good passages of play towards the end. Unfortunately, this meant they would not continue to the next round.
All students showed great teamwork and effort throughout the day. Well done to the students who really rose to the occasion and scored many goals. We are so proud of everyone. Go Vermont!
TABLE TENNIS
Vermont took a full contingent of very keen Year 7 boys and one team of enthusiastic Year 7 girls to the Round Robin Competition on Friday 4th September.
The students displayed great sportspersonship and played each match with and enthusiasm.
For some students, this was their first experience playing table tennis competitively and it proved to be a fun and full of learning.
Congratulations to our girls team, new to the sport and playing in section B. They competed against Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley coming 3rd overall. Well done to Evie, Zoe, Mithra, Eva and Rithika and pictured here with Josh and Mrs Anderson.

Our Boys B team, made up to Raveen, Ishaan, Krish, Jack, Jacob and Matthew competed against Glen Waverley, Mt Waverley and Highvale. The boys took games from Glen Waverley going down 2-4. They lost to Mt Waverley 0-6 and came out the victors against Highvale in a tight 3-3 tussle. Overall they finished 2nd on the day – a fantastic effort. They are pictured below with coach Josh.
Our A teams made up of Stephen, Michael, Thevin, Pranaav, Awn and Joel were super competitive on the day.

They beat Mt Waverley 6-0, Highvale 5-1 and Glen Waverley 4-2 – an outstanding effort. They overcame some tough opposition to come out on top and progressing through to the next stage to be held on Friday 16th October.
Thankyou to Ryen and Ewan for supporting the teams both at selection, training and on the day of competition. Thanks to Josh for his work in selecting and coaching the teams. All three are pictured with the team below.

We wish the A boys teams all the best as they represent Vermont at the next stage of competition.
