YEAR 8 KEY INFORMATION: WEEK 9
Year 8 Formation Day
Our Year 8 Formation Day will be held on Friday, 11 September. This compulsory pastoral day will help students develop a deeper understanding of Mary's fiat (her "yes" to God) and how her example continues to inspire our Catholic faith and the mission of St Mary's Catholic College.
The day will begin with students attending Pastoral Group before travelling by bus to Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, Earlville, to celebrate Mass with Fr James Thazhoor. Following Mass, students will return to the College at approximately 10:30 am and participate in a range of formation activities in the Hugh O'Brien Centre.
Students will have their normal morning tea and lunch breaks and are required to bring their own food for the day, either from home or purchased through the Tuckshop.
Uniform: Sports uniform with House shirt.
R U OK? Day
Next Thursday, 10 September, the College will recognise R U OK? Day. This day of action encourages our young people to recognise the signs that someone may be struggling and to reach out and check in.
It also provides students with practical tools to build meaningful connections, have supportive conversations and recognise the support systems around them.
Students are encouraged to dress in yellow and join us for a BBQ breakfast from 7:30am in the HOB.
During Pastoral Group, students will also participate in an R U OK? Day prayer, and have the opportunity to ‘Share a Chit Chat with a Kit Kat’ with their peers to help start the conversation.
A reminder that regular grooming and jewellery expectations still apply for the free-dress day, including hair tied up, and only one set of small studs or sleepers in the earlobes.
House Cup Challenge - Update
We have just one week remaining in the Term 3 Year 8 House Cup Challenge, and it is a close battle, with Cahill currently holding a slight lead.
Congratulations to 8CA1, 8HE2, 8HU1 and 8MU2, who all won this week's challenge by receiving no detentions. Well done, and keep up the positive behaviours!
This week, Murray and Hutchinson also participated in an Interhouse Pastoral Group Challenge, led by our wonderful Year 10 Leaders. Hutchinson came out victorious, securing their place in next Wednesday's final.
This means the final will be a showdown between Hutchinson and Heavey! We look forward to seeing who takes the win.
A huge thank you to our Year 10 Leaders and Mrs McQueen for organising this fantastic challenge for our Year 8 students.
