LOTE

In Indonesian over the past fortnight, our junior school students have continued exploring Indonesian animals, including some very cheeky monkeys!

Prep students have been learning about jungle animals, linking their new vocabulary to their knowledge of colours and numbers. Years 1 and 2 finished reading 'Wombi Di Pantai' ('Wombi at the Beach'), demonstrating their skills in identifying vocabulary and working out meaning through translation.

Years 3 and 4 have been translating a short text about what children in Indonesia do on the weekend, using a range of translation strategies, as well as learning the Poco-Poco dance from Maluku. Years 5 and 6 have been practising their letter-writing skills by sharing information about sports in Australia, including sports they enjoy playing and watching.

Performing Arts

We have lots of exciting learning opportunities coming up in Performing Arts in Term 4!

Students will be continuing to develop their musical skills as we revisit and build on our ukulele learning. Students will have the opportunity to learn strumming patterns and songs, while developing their confidence and musicality.

We will also begin preparing for our Christmas Concert, giving students the opportunity to showcase their singing, dancing and performance skills. It will be wonderful to see our students working together, rehearsing and building towards this special whole-school celebration.

Our Choir will also return in Term 4, meeting every Tuesday during the first half of lunchtime. Choir is open to students from Prep to Year 6, and we welcome students who love to sing or simply want to come along and give it a try.

There is lots to look forward to, and I can't wait to see our students continue to grow in confidence, creativity and performance skills throughout Term 4.

Physical Education

District Athletics Recount

We started off the day in the gym, we all felt nervous but we knew it was going to be okay.  When we arrived at Burwood East, the sun shone down on us. It was a perfect day for athletics. Some people had to go to their events straight away like high jump and 1.5 kilometres at 9:30. I did high jump and I was pretty nervous, but I tried my hardest to win. I got fifth unfortunately but at least tried my best. I got back after my event and went straight to the long jump with my buddy Tanis. It was really close between me and him with me coming third behind him by just one centimeter! He then left early to go to the 100m sprint with Mathew and Eddie, they all came first! Some of them then had to go straight to the 200m sprint  straight after the event. After this most of us had a big break in between the relay events. I remember practising relay with my team before the race, I felt pretty nervous.  When it came I was the second runner in my race and Mathew was the fourth in his. My team ended up winning with Mathew’s coming second! We were both very happy as we both got our ribbons as the day was wrapping up. Mathew finished with 2 first place finishes and a second and I got 1 first place and a third. The day was amazing and I'm sure everybody thoroughly enjoyed it. Everybody did amazing, trying their hardest and lots of people made it to the division. Overall everybody had an amazing day.

STEAM

Prep

Students celebrated a fantastic term of learning by investigating rockets and space travel before preparing an Earth and Space exhibition. They reflected on everything they had discovered about the sky, Sun, Moon, stars and Earth while proudly sharing their favourite artworks and scientific investigations with others.

Years 1 & 2

Students completed their Earth and Space assessment and created final "Sky Story" artworks that combined their scientific knowledge with artistic creativity. The term concluded with the Sky, Country & Beyond Exhibition, where students confidently shared their investigations, artwork and learning.

Years 3 & 4

Our NASA Young Engineers proudly showcased their completed sustainable space communities after months of researching, designing, building, testing and refining their ideas. Students demonstrated impressive collaboration, creativity and engineering thinking as they presented their innovative solutions and reflected on the design process.

Years 5 & 6

Year 5/6 students concluded their Earth and Space unit by showcasing their investigations, models and designs inspired by both scientific knowledge and Indigenous perspectives. Through reflection and presentation, students celebrated a term of inquiry, creativity and problem-solving while sharing their understanding of our universe.

Something Exciting Is Coming to STEAM! 🧪

We have something very exciting planned for Term 4 in STEAM! Students across the school will have the opportunity to take part in a special Chemistry Immersion Experience, designed to bring the world of chemistry to life through hands-on investigations, experiments and plenty of curiosity.

Each year level will experience a different chemistry-themed focus, carefully designed to suit their age and learning. Students will have the chance to explore, investigate, make observations and discover that chemistry is all around us - sometimes in places we might not expect!

We don’t want to give away too many surprises just yet… but we can promise that Term 4 is going to be a very exciting one in the STEAM room! 🔬

Keep an eye out for more information as we get closer to the event!
