Year 1 & 2
Around our level
What an exciting fortnight for Year 1 & 2 with ‘Book Tastings’ for Book Week, Father’s Day afternoon yea and an excursion to Melbourne Zoo!

During Literacy sessions, we have continued to work on our UFLI sessions, and it is great to hear our students sounding and pounding out their sounds as they blend and segment their words together. We have also continued with our Guided Reading sessions with pleasing results. Students went on a ‘Sound Walk’ in the Sanctuary for a reading activity.

Book Week provided us with fantastic opportunities to write about our reading. Our Special Assembly and Book Tasting Restaurant provided memorable experiences to write recounts about. We also focussed on the importance of illustrations when we read 'Dawn' by Marc Martin, and then ventured outside to create illustrations focussing on the detail in nature. We wrote about our amazing Zoo excursion, highlighting our favourite animals, and completed Animal Research Projects, with some of us presenting our research as Google Slide presentations.

During Maths lessons, students have been revising Addition and Subtraction and working on problem solving skills.
For Integrated Studies, students have been learning about maps and how they can help us understand and find our way around different places. They explored a range of maps, identified features and symbols, and practised asking questions about the information shown. Students also had the opportunity to create and label their own maps of their homes or a special place!

In Wellbeing, students have been learning about positive friendships and what makes a friendship feel good. They explored different ways to describe friends and discussed how friendships can be different while still being special. We also revisited our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety, focusing on how we can demonstrate these values when playing and interacting with others in school.

Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
