These students have been working on developing an artwork which also celebrates the colourful murals being painted around the school. The class discussed each artwork being painted around the school as well as the native Australian animals, after also focusing on the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.

These students have also used their hands, paper and collage techniques to create a series of brightly crested birds. As well as this, they have used their own creativity and incorporated a multicoloured patchwork background with paper and glue into their pieces.

These are shaping up to be some beautiful birds!

Year 3 and  4

In Visual Arts students continued to discuss the classroom expectations when in the Art room.

As the murals were being completed around the school grounds, the grade 3 and 4 students spoke about the different animals and plants we saw on each wall, as well as any local flora and fauna observed by the students themselves.

We discussed the animals and plants, and how they were also known as flora and fauna.

Students then chose an Australian native animal to create a clay model of.

The year 3 and 4 students then explored which shapes and elements made up the body, head and wings etc of these animals.

After this students used pipecleaners, wire, tinfoil and paper to create an armature or wire skeleton to sit underneath their clay sculpture.

We are now starting to add clay to our sculptures of native animals such as Sulphur Crested Cockatoos, Kangaroos, possums and Kookaburras! These are starting to look fantastic!

Year 5 and 6

In Visual Arts students continued to discuss the classroom expectations when in the Art room.

As part of our learning this term, the grade 5 and 6 students have had discussions with our visiting artist, Ryan, who has been busy creating artistic murals and adding a splash of colour to the CPS school grounds.

As the year 5 and 6 students are going to be completing their own miniature murals they spoke with Ryan at different points about how he plans his murals, which animals he includes in his design, as well as decisions such as colour choices. After these conversations were had with Ryan the year 5 and 6 students started to design an artwork as if they had been given the design brief by Mr Carrol.

Exploring different First Nations artists, such as Maree Clark and Albert Namatjira, each artist's creative techniques when painting artworks, the materials they use, as well as their individual style to aid in each creation. This, combined with student knowledge of native flora and fauna seen around Craigieburn PS to design their miniature murals.

After this step has been completed students constructed their miniature walls from a rectangular prism net, which they folded together, before finally using glue and small rectangles of cardboard to create a brick pattern. These walls are looking fantastic and the addition of student designs will really make these miniature murals pop!
