Wantirna College were represented by three fantastic athletes at the State Athletics Championships recently. Hailey Buckley, Holly Makaay and Jayvel Singh competed at Melbourne’s premier track, Lakeside Stadium. We were faced with warm and windy conditions and strong competition from Victoria’s best public school athletes. Below are the results.
Hailey Buckley – 17 Girls
3rd in 100m Hurdles 17.31 seconds
3rd in 200m 27.04s
4th in 100m 13.33s
Holly Makaay – 16 Girls
5th in 800m 2:29.02

Jayvel Singh – 16 Boys

We combined for a team score of 23 points.
Congratulations to these three athletes on their achievements. In particular to Hailey for medalling in two events. Additionally, Holly and Jayvel who have now represented Wantirna in both cross country and athletics at state this year. An incredible effort. We are looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
Year 7 EMR Baseball
On Tuesday 29 October our Year 7 Boys Baseball team headed out to Gilbert Park to compete the in Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) championships. For many, it would be the first time they have played baseball and a new experience for them.
We started off the day strong with wins against Brentwood, Mooroolbark and Balwyn, ending on top of Pool A and making it to the grand final against Heathmont later in the day. The winner would advance to the State Finals later in the year.
Unfortunately, we lost the Grand Final, with Heathmont being too strong, and ended up finishing runners-up in the division, and collecting another flag for Wantirna.
Given the fact it was the first time many of these boys have played baseball, they did an incredible job to learn on the spot and compete throughout the day.
Now with a greater understanding of the game, we are already looking forward to next year's baseball tournament.
Thank you to the parent helpers on the day who assisted with scoring and coaching, your help was greatly appreciated. Congratulations to all players on finishing runners up in the region, lets hope we can go one better next year!
