Sustainability

2025 has been a fabulous year for sustainability at Thornbury High School with the student Green Team and staff Sustainability Committee both working on projects aiming to reduce waste. 

The Green Team have been diligently managing composting and can recycling programs, setting up bins out in the yard and then emptying them weekly, as well as turning the compost to keep it fresh, ventilated and well-mixed. 

We got the Sustainability Committee started in Term 3, bringing together a group of eight passionate staff members.Our first focus was getting composts in staff kitchens across the school. We extended this project to include making the end of year staff lunch a little more eco friendly. We set up the compost bins, can recycling bins and regular recycling bins for staff to separate their rubbish into throughout the afternoon, as well as providing and washing glasses for drinks and small plates for dessert to be served on. 

We are looking excited for 2027 and all that we can achieve to make Thornbury High School a more sustainable school!
