Library

These last few weeks of the school year have been fantastic, managing to be both bustling and busy as well as relaxed and fun. I have been planning exciting things for next year, winding up the Wide Reading program for the year and finishing the stocktake of every single item in the Library! Thank you so much to Isobel and Blaga for doing 90% of this massive job, as well as Elsa, one of our Library Leaders for her contribution to the stocktake and other end-of-year tasks. I would also like to acknowledge the students who have volunteered in the Library over the last few days, helping me search for books not found in the stocktake, tidying the shelves, sorting out all of the materials in the Makerspace and counting board game pieces.
Library Year in Review
It is always interesting to reflect on the year that has been and I personally love collecting and presenting statistics! Hence, I created this Library Year in Review slide show (thanks for the template, Beth!), with a focus on what the most popular books were. Scroll across to the right to find out what topped the THS Library charts!
Staff Book Club
Our final book of the year was Always Will Be by Dr Mykaela Saunders, a short story anthology imagining what different futures could look like if Goori communities reasserted their sovereignty in the Tweed. It was a fantastic collection that raised many thought-provoking questions and made for a fabulous conclusion to our year as a book club. I am very proud of the success that the Staff Book Club has been in its first year and it has been a pleasure to talk about books, both in the official meetings in the Library and the unofficial chats in the corridors and staff room, and to get to know more of my colleagues along the way. I am looking forward to our first meeting of 2026 and I hope everyone gets a chance to read the next book over the break.
Finally, I would like to recognise Blaga’s service to the Library for more than six years. She has made a significant contribution to the space and its programs, working as a part of many different library teams while dividing her time between both the Library and the Food Technology Department. Thank you, Blaga, for all of your hard work, particularly with chasing overdues, and I’m sure the Food Department will be glad not to have to share you anymore!
Thank you to the THS community for a wonderful year in the Library and I hope you enjoy some summer reading over the holidays, maybe even getting involved in Darebin Libraries’ Big Summer Read. I have quite the stack lined up for myself and while I know I am being very ambitious, I can’t wait to get started!
