Clay Target Shooting
The College Clay Target Shooters have had a busy week recently, with House Shooting, the South West Zone competition, and the GD Hamilton competition all taking place within the space of six days.
House Clay Target Shooting Competition
On Wednesday, 26 August, we held our annual House Clay Target Shooting Competition at the Hamilton Clay Target Club.
We had perfect conditions for the evening, giving no shooter an excuse to be off target! There was some close competition — and some not-so-close competition.
Young came in fourth with an average of 11. Laidlaw took third place with an average of 13.5, while the difference between first and second was just 0.08. Overall, Learmonth claimed the win with an average of 15.75, leaving Berry in second place with 15.67.
It was a great effort by all, with many junior shooters achieving personal bests that evening. A big thank you to Mr Burmeister for organising the event and to all the parents who helped out.

School Sports Victoria Clay Shooting Competition
Our shooters attended the annual South West Zone shooting event at Noorat on Thursday, 27 August. This is the largest Clay Target Shooting event in our region, and placing at this event is the only way to receive an invitation to the Victorian Schools Clay Target Shooting competition, held in Echuca each year.
The College Shooters had a successful day at the traps, with several of our younger students shooting personal-best scores.
Braden Veale, our Shooting Captain, took top honours on the day with an exceptional score of 20/20, the only perfect score at the event. Another notable performance came from Lincoln Brown, who narrowly missed out on a placing after scoring 17/20 and then losing out in a shoot-off. We wish Braden all the best when he represents us at State level in Echuca.
Glenelg Division Shooting Competition
The GD Hamilton competition was another successful day for our shooters. This event took place at the Hamilton Clay Target Club and gave students the opportunity to mingle with other shooters from schools in our area. Our shooters enjoyed the familiar environment, with some good scores on the day.
Braden Veale and Annabel Funcke were involved in a three-way shoot-off for High Gun, with both just falling short of the top prize on the day. Braden placed first in the experienced boys' category, while Annabel placed first in the experienced girls' category.
End of Season
We only have a few training sessions left in the season, with our annual 'break-up training session' happening in Week 2 of Term Four. This is a relaxed and fun training day, with parents invited to attend and have a go at shooting, often guided by their children through the ins and outs of shooting Down the Line. It is also a good opportunity for any College student to come and try their hand at shooting.
With the season now drawing to a close, it has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm and improvement of our College shooters throughout the year. We look forward to finishing the season on a high and celebrating another successful year of Clay Target Shooting at the College.

Basketball
It has been another great week of College basketball, with the Junior School Year 3-6 students participating in Hoop Time and the final round of the HBD season before finals.
U14B Girls – Snowy Owls
The girls had a good win against Saint Mary’s, 55–11, placing them in a strong place for finals next week. Players of the match were Henrietta Patterson, Georgina Whale, and Daisy Tigges, all putting up 10 points each. It was an amazing effort and all the girls should be proud of their efforts.
U14B Girls – Sooty Owls
This week the girls had a bye - the girls will be rested for their first final.
U16A Girls – Majestic Owls
The U16A girls won against Minders Blue in a 7-point win. There were great contributions by everyone, with each player made an impact. Great shooting came from Elsie Brown, who put up 12 points. A great effort by these girls, pushing hard until the final buzzer.
U16B Girls – Snowy Owls
Up against Tigers, the College girls played a strong game but fell short by 14 points. Players of the game were Ellie Lewis, who put up 8 points for her team and was a key driver to the basket. Unlucky game for the girls, but next week, no doubt, they will come in more fired up than ever.
Div 2 Women – Snowy Owls
This week, the girls went up against Saint Mary’s in a tough battle; finishing with an unfortunate 32-point loss. In the second half, the girls realised they needed to inject some fun into the game and thats what they did. Shout out to Finnuala Bailey, a new asset to the College family, who scored 4-points and was exceptional in her defence. The girls are ready to bring it to the Div 2 finals.
Div 3 Women – Majestic Owls
The girls had a 9-point win against Minders Blue. They had a slow start but picked up the pace in the second half to take the lead. Congratulations to Bridget Sherlock, who put up 13 crucial points for the team. Each and every player on the court showed up when needed and played as a team, working hard to fight for the ball.
U12B Girls – Sooty Owls
The girls had another win this week, 40-points over Minders Blue. Every player contributed and worked exceptionally well together. Hazel Johns was a standout, putting up 19-points for her team; she was a little pocket rocket around the court, and showed great sportsmanship throughout the game towards her team and the opposition. The girls should be pleased with how far they have come over the season. They are hyped up and ready for finals.
A big congratulations to all College teams that made a final this basketball season; it is an incredible effort to get here, and each team should be very proud of where they have come throughout the season.
