Primary Principal's Day 💚💛
What a wonderful day celebrating Primary Principal’s Day! I would like to extend my thanks to our incredible staff, students and families for the beautiful messages, thoughtful gestures and genuine expressions of support and appreciation throughout the day.
I was truly touched by the effort that went into making the day so special. Your kindness and generosity were a wonderful reminder of what makes Modbury School P-6 such a special place to belong.
I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to lead our amazing school. I genuinely love my job and love coming to work each day. There is nothing better than seeing our learners grow, discover, challenge themselves, celebrate their successes and simply enjoy being at school. I am so proud of the wonderful people who make our school what it is.
To our dedicated staff, our enthusiastic learners and our supportive families – thank you. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a caring, connected and happy community. Being your Principal is a privilege, and I am grateful every day for the opportunity to work alongside such wonderful people.
Preschool Assessment and Rating process
We are excited to share that our preschool has recently participated in the assessment and rating process with the Education Standards Board. This process is a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on our practice and celebrate all the amazing experiences we offer to our youngest learners.
The assessment and rating process looks closely at the quality of early childhood education and care services, helping to ensure that our preschool continues to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for your children. It is designed to highlight the strengths of services and help us identify opportunities to further enhance our programs.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our incredible preschool team for their outstanding dedication, passion, and hard work leading up to this assessment. Our team’s commitment to delivering high-quality, play-based learning experiences was truly on display during the process, and as Principal, I couldn’t be prouder.
As we await our feedback, we are eager to continue strengthening the valuable work happening in our preschool, ensuring that every child continues to thrive and learn in a rich and supportive environment. Thank you to our families for your ongoing support—it truly makes a difference!
2027 Student Placement process
As we begin looking ahead to 2027, families will receive a note early next week regarding our 2027 Student Placement Process.
This process helps us begin planning and preparing our classes for next year and ensures we have an accurate picture of our expected student numbers. We kindly ask all families to complete the form and return it to your child’s classroom teacher as promptly as possible.
Your timely response is greatly appreciated and will assist us in making informed decisions as we plan for our 2027 classes and ensure we are well prepared to welcome our students into the new school year.
Thank you for your support and cooperation as we begin our planning for another exciting year of learning at Modbury School P-6! 💚💛
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day
This month, we proudly recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day—a special occasion dedicated to celebrating the strengths and culture of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. This important day is an opportunity for all families to come together and acknowledge the unique heritage, languages, and stories that form a vibrant part of Australia’s past, present, and future.
Children’s Day holds special significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, as it celebrates their children, promotes the importance of early childhood, and supports cultural identity. For all families, it is a chance to deepen understanding and respect for the world’s oldest living cultures, to learn from one another, and to build strong, inclusive communities where every child feels valued and proud.
At our school, we are committed to honouring the histories, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We thank you for joining us in celebrating this important day and encouraging our children to walk proudly in both worlds.
Woodhouse Adventure Park - Year 5/6 Camp
Our Year 5/6 students recently had an incredible opportunity to experience WoodhouseAdventure Camp! From exciting challenges and adventurous activities to plenty of laughter, teamwork and new experiences, it was a fantastic few days filled with memories that our students will treasure for years to come. You can read more about the camp later in the newsletter.
It was wonderful to see our students embracing challenges, supporting one another and demonstrating our school values of Connect, Challenge and Create, as well as our PBL values of Be Kind, Be Safe and Be Resilient.
A massive thank you to Luke Venter and Jake Green for the incredible amount of time, effort and organisation that went into preparing such a fabulous camp experience for our students. We also extend our sincere thanks to Jade Mattin for attending camp and supporting our students throughout the experience.
And a very special thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers, Mel and Kylie. Your time, energy and support made such a difference. Experiences like camp simply cannot happen without the generous support of our families, and we are incredibly grateful for your contribution.
Well done, Year 5/6 — what an adventure! 🌿🧗♀️👏
Learning for Living – Our New School Mural 🎨
Room 8 and Room 9 recently had an exciting opportunity to collaborate with Scott from Rusted Tin Contemporary Aboriginal Art to develop the design for a brand-new mural for our school canteen!
The mural will reflect our school motto, “Learning for Living,” and will add another vibrant and contemporary piece of student-created art to our school grounds. It has been wonderful to see our students sharing their ideas, creativity and imagination with Scott to develop a design that represents who we are as a school.
Our school grounds are already filled with meaningful spaces created in collaboration with our students and community. Our fire pit was designed by Modbury students, many of whom are now in high school, around our wellbeing theme of “belonging.” Our school building artwork was developed around our school values, while the OSU was created in partnership with our OSHC community, again exploring the theme of belonging.
We love that our environment tells the story of our school and the people who make it such a special place. We can’t wait to see what Room 8 and Room 9 have created and look forward to watching their vision come to life on our canteen! 🌈🎨✨
Celebrating Family Connections 🌟
It was wonderful to welcome so many of our families to our recent Parent Open Afternoon and Preschool Parent Stay and Play! These opportunities to come together, share in our students’ learning and connect with one another are such an important part of building a strong and connected school community.
Our Open Afternoon had a Science Week focus, and it was fantastic to see our students enthusiastically sharing their learning with their families and getting hands-on with some very cool science experiments! There was plenty of curiosity, excitement and discovery as families explored and learned together. You can read more about our Open Afternoon later in this newsletter.
Our Preschool Parent Stay and Play was also a wonderful success, with so many families joining us in the Preschool. There was such a fantastic buzz and positive energy throughout the space as children proudly shared their learning environments, experiences and play with their families. It was lovely to see parents and carers getting involved, chatting with educators and enjoying time together in the Preschool setting.
These events remind us just how important family and strong connections between home and school are. When families are actively involved in our school community, our students feel a greater sense of belonging, pride and connection to their learning. Thank you to all the families who joined us — we loved having you here! 💚💛
Celebrating Book Week – A Love of Reading 📚✨
What a wonderful Book Week we have had at Modbury School P-6! There is something truly special about seeing our school community come alive with a love of reading, books, stories and imagination. Books open doors to new worlds, introduce us to fascinating characters and ideas, and help us see life through different eyes.
Our annual Book Week Parade was an absolute highlight! It was fantastic to watch our students confidently strut their stuff on the catwalk, proudly dressed as their favourite book characters. From creative costumes to big smiles and plenty of character, our students certainly knew how to bring their stories to life! It was wonderful to see families cheering them on and sharing in the joy of this special celebration. Please see our dedicated 'Book Week Parade' page for all the costumes and highlights of the parade.
Our Book Week theme, “A Symphony of Stories,” reminds us that every book adds another note to the beautiful story of who we are as readers and learners.
“A book is a ticket to anywhere.” 🎟️📖
We are so proud to be a book-loving school and look forward to continuing to nurture a lifelong love of reading in every one of our learners. Keep reading, keep wondering and keep discovering — you never know where the next story might take you! 🌟📚
📚 Book Fair is Coming!
Get ready, book lovers — our Book Fair is coming next week! 📖✨
We are excited to once again bring a wonderful selection of books to our school community, providing our students with the perfect opportunity to discover their next great read. Whether they love adventure, humour, mysteries, animals, graphic novels or getting lost in a magical story, there will be something for everyone!
Our Book Fair is a fantastic way to celebrate our love of reading while encouraging our students to build their own home libraries and discover the joy of choosing a book for themselves.
We encourage all our families to come along, browse the fantastic range and support our school. Every book purchased helps support our school and contributes towards growing our collection of books and resources for our students.
Let’s keep our Modbury community reading, imagining and discovering! 🌟📚💚💛
Celebrating Our Wonderful OSHC Team 🌟OSHC Educators Day
On OSHC Educators Day, we shone a very special spotlight on Nicola and her amazing team and the wonderful service they provide for our students and families.
Our OSHC is such an important part of our school community. Every day, Nicola and her team create a welcoming, safe and engaging environment where our students can connect with friends, play, explore and simply enjoy being part of our school community outside of classroom hours. We know just how much our families value the care, flexibility and genuine relationships the team provides.
Did you know? Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) provides care before and after school, as well as during school holidays and other times when school is not operating. In the March quarter of 2026, more than 577,000 Australian children accessed OSHC, with OSHC making up around one-third of all approved early childhood education and care services across Australia.
OSHC also makes a meaningful contribution well beyond simply providing care. Access to quality care helps parents and carer's work, study, train and participate in their communities, supporting family wellbeing and contributing to Australia's economy.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated team here at Modbury. Thank you, Nicola and team, for the care, energy, creativity and connection you bring to our students each day. Your work truly makes a difference to our children, our families and our wider school community.
Happy OSHC Educators Day! We appreciate you more than you know! 💚💛
🎭 Week 6 Arts Showcase – A Celebration of Creativity!
Week 6 is shaping up to be an exciting celebration of the Arts at Modbury School P–6! Our students will enjoy a fantastic line-up of performances that will inspire creativity, imagination and a love of music and storytelling.
Students will be entertained by the lively Book Week performance, Wake Up and Read, celebrating the joy of reading through engaging theatre. They will also experience the energetic sounds of the SAPOL Police Band, showcasing the power and excitement of live music, before enjoying Musica Viva's Music in My Suitcase, an interactive performance that takes students on a musical journey through cultures and instruments from around the world.
These wonderful experiences provide our students with the opportunity to connect with the Arts, broaden their appreciation of music and performance, and spark curiosity and creativity. We can't wait to see the excitement and inspiration these performances bring to our school community!
🎶 Wishing Our School Choir a Fantastic Rehearsal!
A very special good luck and have fun to our wonderful School Choir as they head off tomorrow for their exciting choir rehearsal!
We know our students will have a fantastic time celebrating their love of music and collaborating with students from other schools as they come together to rehearse their repertoire of songs. It will be a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another, build confidence and, of course, enjoy the magic of singing together!
This rehearsal is another exciting step towards the big night on stage, where our talented choir will have the opportunity to share their hard work and love of music with an audience.
We are so proud of our choir and can’t wait to see and hear them raise their voices and shine on stage! 🎤🎶🌟
Have a fantastic day, Choir — sing proudly, have fun and enjoy every moment! 💚💛
