Learning Update from each area across the school
Pre School

We are navigating cycles of change. We love our new friends who just started preschool, we also really miss our old friends who went to school and we try to see them every day at the gate.

Our children are enjoying exploring preschool together, babies and tea parties are our favourite right now!

Early Years (Rooms 4, 6,7 and 8)

Room 4- Room 4 students have had a wonderful start to their school journey and are settling into the routines and expectations of school with growing confidence. It has been exciting to see friendships develop as the children become familiar with their new learning environment.

Our classroom is a play-based learning environment, where children explore, discover and develop new skills through purposeful play. Through these experiences, we are building important foundation skills, including developing fine motor strength and pencil grip, beginning our writing journey, and learning to recognise and form numerals from 0–10.

We have also been enjoying many shared stories, book studies and creative art experiences inspired by the books we read together. These activities encourage language development, creativity and a love of reading while supporting learning across all curriculum areas.

It has been a fantastic start to the year, and we are looking forward to seeing the children continue to grow in confidence, independence and their love of learning through play.

Room 7 - Room 7 have delved straight back into learning this term with a big focus on sentence writing in phonics, and narrative/descriptive writing in English. Maths has seen us dive deeper into our number concepts, as well as a data unit we engage with once a week through inquiry/investigative learning. Students are back doing history (with a cultural focus) in HASS, after a geography unit across Term 2. Students also started their new music block in collaboration with the other JP classes (RM 6 & 8) last week

Room 8 are working on Jocelyn Seamers Resource Room and un packing the Story by Mem Fox of Koala Lou. We are also continuing our learning about time.

Primary Years (Rooms 9, 11, 12

Room 11 - In English, students have finalised their information reports from last term and are getting ready to present them at assembly. We have also started looking at persuasive writing. In maths we have been learning about fractions which many students have become confident with! We are starting to look at decimals and percentages as well.

Rm 12 - In English, students have been learning about Persuasive Speeches and what makes a speech convincing or interesting. Some examples we have learned about Martin Luther King, Greta Thunberg and Winston Churchill.

Primary Special Class This term, our focus in mathematics will be on multiplication, with an emphasis on building connections between repeated addition and multiplying. Developing social skills is also a key priority, as these are essential life-long abilities. Participation in the "What's the Buzz" social group will provide valuable support for developing these skills. Additionally, we will be including a weekly cooking activity, designed to integrate literacy and numeracy in an engaging and enjoyable way.
Specialists PE - Students have been learning AFL (Australian Rules Football) and the associated skills such as the drop punt, handball, bounce and evasion. Students will demonstrate their skills in mini/non-competitive games. Our Sporting Schools grant was approved so students will get to participate in some Gymnastics lessons facilitated by Tri Skills this term.
Technologies - Early Years students are collecting, sorting and interpreting different forms of data and are beginning to learn about what data belongs to them. Middle Primary students are exploring how robots are used to automate tasks and carry out jobs unsuitable for humans in the contexts of farming and search and rescue. Upper Primary students are designing an arcade console, controller and video game that they will build late in the term.
