Where Are They Now?

This year we're celebrating our past students who have gone on to bigger and better things! In each issue, an ex VUSC student will give our school community an insight into their journey out of secondary schooling and into their chosen pathway.
If you are a past student, or know of a past student who would be willing to share their journey, please email kristy.muratore@education.vic.gov.au.
Lana Prodanovic
Graduated: 2024 Age: 19
Career Pathway: Actress / Co-Producer / Photographer
Can you describe your study/career journey so far?
Since graduating from VUSC, I’ve been pursuing acting and creative work. I completed my VET studies in screen acting through the Australian College of Dramatic Arts, which really helped me develop my skills. I’ve worked on short films, independent projects and television, always aiming to bring authenticity and connection to my performances.
I’m currently involved in the feature film When Worlds Collide, which is in post-production. I’m working as an actress, behind-the-scenes/stills photographer, and co-producer. There’s a theatre viewing planned at Village Cinemas mid-year, so stay tuned on Instagram @lana.prodanovic.
During school, I did my work placement at 3ZZZ radio thanks to Mr Bettiol, contributing weekly NPL updates and broadcasting live from Lakeside Stadium during South Melbourne home games. It was a fantastic way to gain hands-on experience and see how the industry works.
How did you become interested in your career pathway and what were your motivations for pursuing this career?
I’ve always loved storytelling and performing. Being on set and working with different people is what excites me the most. Bringing characters to life and collaborating with others is something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember.
What did you do whilst at secondary school to prepare for your chosen career pathway? (e.g. VCE subjects, expos, work experience)
I made the most of every creative opportunity. My VET studies, projects and work placement all helped me gain confidence, experience and a better understanding of the industry.
What advice do you have for other students who are interested in pursuing your career pathway?
Do what makes you happy. It can feel scary to put yourself out there, but small steps matter, and opportunities often come in ways you don’t expect. Surround yourself with people who inspire you, keep learning, and trust your own path.
