Around the Campuses

Remembering the ANZACs
During the ANZAC assembly, one of the main things that stood out to me was that it was such an important assembly, yet it was led by students, which made it feel more meaningful. The guest speakers talked about the roles they work in within the army, which I found interesting. One of the most memorable moments was when a student played the Last Post during the two minutes of silence, as it is a very difficult piece. We didn’t clap at all, which showed respect and how seriously everyone took the assembly. From this experience, I learned that remembering the past is important and that, with hard work and dedication, you can be part of something meaningful.
Alexis Franklin - Year 8
The ANZAC Day Assembly was a meaningful commemoration to remember those who fought for us during times of war. The guest speakers were a great addition to the assembly, as they helped teach us the true meaning of ANZAC Day and reminded us to appreciate the sacrifices made by the men and women who served our country. Their stories and reflections made the ceremony feel more meaningful. What stood out to me most was the wreath laying while the Concert Band was playing. I thought this was a very meaningful and respectful moment that brought us together in reflection. Everyone showed respect throughout the ceremony by listening attentively.
Overall, the assembly was very successful and taught us the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by past and present servicemen and women. It reminded us that ANZAC Day is more than just reflecting on history, but also about recognising the courage and sacrifices shown.
Cindy NGUYEN - Year 9
During the ANZAC assembly, one of the things that stood out to me was the performance by the school band, especially during the instrumental pieces, as it created a solemn and reflective atmosphere. Another key moment was the guest speakers, who made a strong impact on me through their clear, respectful, and thoughtful delivery, which helped me feel more connected to history and imagine the experiences of soldiers and their families during wartime.
The most meaningful and memorable part of the assembly was the guest speakers’ speeches, as they encouraged deeper reflection on the realities behind soldiers’ sacrifices. In addition, the moment when the whole school stood together for the Last Post was particularly powerful, symbolising respect, remembrance, and unity.
Our school community demonstrated respect throughout the ceremony by maintaining silence, standing when required, avoiding distractions, and listening carefully to both speakers and performances. Students and staff all behaved in a formal and respectful manner, contributing to the significance of the event.
From this experience, I also learnt the importance of the ANZAC assembly, which is not only a commemoration of courage and sacrifice, but also a reminder of unity, respect, and national pride.
Eliza Verma - Year 8
The ANZAC Day ceremony was conducted very well by everyone involved. The School Captains presented themselves respectfully, along with the SRC members who participated in the speeches and wreath laying ceremony.
The guest speakers were excellent, and their messages about carrying on the ANZAC spirit were both meaningful and inspiring. As someone interested in joining the army in the future, the assembly was a valuable lesson in respect and helped me better understand the sacrifices and dedication shown by servicemen and women.
Zahra Albury - Year 8
